I am hoping that someone can give me further information on my grandparents. My grandmothers name was Ophelia Balencia and was born January 1913 in New Mexico. According to family she and her sister were raised in an orphanage because the rest of the family had died from an illness. The orphanage she and her sister was around T & C new Mexico an had burned down. I believe that my grandmother may have been part of the Apache (Chiricahua) Nation. She married my mothers father Enrique Martinez 1897. I am pretty desperate to find info on my family and any help will be greatly appreciated

Question, do you know how to go about finding information on orphans / adopted children in New Mexico, I am searching for a friend, his mother was native american and we don't know her name, but we think the father's name was Cameron.
Thanks
Barb

The best way to search honestly is to utilize all the features with Ancestry.com. I used what I knew from the individual that was alive and with whom I had contact with. Entered DOB, place of birth ect. then searched. The ost useful info came from news paper articles. NAmes were not usually kept a secret. Also if the place of birth is known check with that county records dept. Good luck
