I have found 3 William Matthews, their force numbers are as follows 19189, 22973 & 35729. The time period you refer to is prior the RIC as it did not get the title until 1867. It was the Constabulary of Ireland prior 1867. But check the National archives in Dublin and the Public Record Office in Kew Gardens London. They may be able to help.

ROBINSON HELP PLEASE.
My grandfather Alexander Robinson was in the Royal Irish Constabulary, according to my relatives, now all dead.
I do not know his date of birth, but my grandmother,Ellen Robinson (nee Boyle) was born in 1895
.
They lived in Auchnacloy,my mother Ellen was born in 1921 in N.Ireland, again I assume in Co Tyrone,as were her sisters Molly, married John Bennet,Grace, married Samuel Gilespie,Georgina(Gina) married Jack Mc Dowell, and one
brother Alex.
It is so difficult to get any information,so any help would be wonderful.
Thank You

ROBINSON
Hi Jim,
Thank you very much, problem is I am not sure if he was RIC , OR RUC.
The name I have on his death cert is Alexander Harold ROBINSON.......-he did not use the middle name when he married in Aughnacloy in 1915.
I also have one photo of him in uniform as a very young man-but have been told near impossible to tell from uniform
It also says he was a Royal Ordinance Rectifier ??
I realise it is impossible to get any info if he was in RUC.
If you find his record in RIC,I would be over the moon to have this information.
Many Thanks
Elsa-Mary
