SEARCHING FOR ANY INFORMATION WHATSOEVER ON people with the above surnames in and around Horodenka. I have no other information.

I checked the phone directory for Horodenka and all the villages in the Horodenka rayon, and there are no Byckal (Byskal), Wladichka, or Bilan listed, only 26 Nykiforuk, and that was in Horodenka.. I checked the Lviv phone directory, and there is one Wladichka listed, and 12 Bilan. As for Byskal, I spelled it a variety of ways ... but nothing.

Could I have the listing for Wladichka? Is a long shot. and thank you. Where are you located?

I live in Canada. I travel to Ukraine because in 1996 I found unknown to me, first cousins. I will be visiting Ukraine again in June for two months, and spending some time in my area, in Horodenka. On this trip, my husband and I plan on touring most of Ukraine. Would you like me to look into Nykiforuk in Horodenka? I am also looking for information regarding BYCKALs and possibly NYKIFORUK. The lines that I am researching came over to Canada circa 1900 from Horodenka and they settled in Saskatchewan.

I am really interested in finding out about your line because I have been searching for these ancestors for years and have had much difficulty with all of the name changes and spelling variations. My BYCKAL family evolved from BYCKALO (pronounced BYET-ska-lo.)

It would be nice if we have the same ancestors. My paternal grandfather was Yurko Betskal (Byckal) and grandmother was Katherine Nykiforuk, who settled near Hafford Saskatchewan or Wanganui. Her parents' were: Paraska & Dmytro Nykiforuk. My great grandfather was Petro Betskal from Horodenka.

If anything matching?
An Aunt of mine in Battleford, Sask tells me that we are not related to the Byckalo family.

My great grandfather was Yurko (George) BYCKALO born abt 1883 in Horodenka. He came to Canada with a number of relatives, but I don't have names for many of them. However, I have been looking at the town history books at my local library and trying to find other families with a similar last name that might be related. What I have determined is that none of the brothers that moved to Canada kept the same name so this is making it difficult for me. (So far I've seen BYCKALO, BYCKAL, BYSKAL, BETSKAL, and perhaps another variation or two.)

How far back have you searched?

I'm rather excitied at the prospect that there might be someone else researching the same Ukrainian line as me. I'm hopeful that somewhere our research crosses.

Oh, and as for the Nykiforuk line, my greatgrandfather had a child with a Nykiforuk woman after his first wife died. I have no relation to her..
