Meairl C. Houseworth
Meairl C. Houseworth, 65, of R.D. 3,
Bedford, died of an apparent heart attack, Monday evening, April 11, 1983, at his hunting lodge in
Bedford Valley.
He was born, November 8, 1917, in Somerset County, a son of the late
Wilson and Sarah (
Miller)
Houseworth.
On January 25, 1941, he married Naomi
Wertz, who survives along with two daughters, Sue Alevia, wife of
Mervin Rose, of R.D. 6, Bedford; and Judy Arlene, wife of Rev. Robert
Custer, of Landisburg, Pa.; and these grandchildren, Heidi, Gretchen, and Robert
Custer, and
Trevor Rose.
Also surviving are these brothers and sisters:
Eva Labie, of R.D. 1, Osterburg;
Walter
Houseworth, of Calif.;
Marie
Smith, of Chicago, Ill.;
William
Houseworth, of R.D. 6, Bedford;
Helen
Crawley, of
Bath, Pa.;
Grace
Whitfield, of Bedford; and
Stanley
Drenning, of
Maryland.
He was preceded in death by one brother and one sister.
Mr. Houseworth was a member of
Bortz Lutheran Church,
Bedford County Sportsmen's Club, the ATA, and the NRA. He was a lifetime lumberman and in 1957 opened the present M.C. Houseworth Lumber Co., in
Bedford Valley, and owned and operated the May &
Bigley Pinmill in
Bedford, from 1963-1971.
Funeral services: Thursday, April 14, at 11 a.m. from Timothy A. Berkebile Funeral Home,
Bedford, with Rev. Richard L. Tome officiating. Burial in
Bedford County Memorial
Park.
Friends will be received at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m.
