Hello,
my research on my family led me to St. Simon's and Butler's Islands in
Georgia. I recently received the "List of 436 Negroes," which includes all the slaves that were sold from the
Butler plantations during the March 2 and 3, 1859 auction in
Savannah.
I do know that some of the descendants of slaves on Sapelo Island still live there in a community, which I believe is called Hog's
Hammock. One of the island residents is
Cornelia Bailey who is a direct descendant of Belali, a muslim slave who is noted in the book you mentioned.
Do you have first names of the people in the Richardsons line?
