Slaves in Georgia

Surnames: BUTLER,
I have a partial listing of slaves that were sold at auction in Savannah, Georgia on March 2 & 3, 1859; this was known as "The Weeping Time". I was able to track my family back to Pierce Butler's plantations (Butler's Island and Hampton Point Plantation [St. Simon's Island], both off the coast of southern Georgia). If anyone is able to track their family back to these plantations, please let me know, I have lots of information for you.

Surnames above are some of the names that slaves took after Emancipation.

Hello,

my research on my family led me to St. Simon's and Butler's Islands in Georgia. I recently received the "List of 436 Negroes," which includes all the slaves that were sold from the Butler plantations during the March 2 and 3, 1859 auction in Savannah.

I do know that some of the descendants of slaves on Sapelo Island still live there in a community, which I believe is called Hog's Hammock. One of the island residents is Cornelia Bailey who is a direct descendant of Belali, a muslim slave who is noted in the book you mentioned.

Do you have first names of the people in the Richardsons line?

The "List of 436 Negroes" is a list of slaves; they did not have last names at that time. I was able to get some of the last names because I tracked the families in the census by matching family first names.

I can do a search for you if you give me the first names of your ancestors.

My great-great-grandfather's parents were from North Carolina and was sold to Richard Owen or his family. Richard Owens is the son of George Owens, who was once Mayor and a representative for Savannah, GA. I am not sure how my great-great-grandfather parents got to georgia. My gret-great-grandfather name was Cahrles Harris (he was born in Georgia). His mother name was Myria or Mira Harris. I do not know his father's name.

I am looking for Milley Kent. I think Seaborn Booker Kent was the slave owner. Perhaps she had brothers and sisters. Any consideration given to this matter will be greatly appreciated.
