FTM 16 with Vista SP2?

Has anyone had experience using FTM 16 with Vista's SP2? Does the Vista patch for FTM work with SP2? I would hate to upgrade my OS and lose access to FTM.

Thanks for information or tales of experience any of you might have had.

John

Thanks for the reply, Russ. Has your Vista been upgraded to SP2? My 16 has been running fine with Service Pack 1 also. Service Pack 2 was released recently and I'd like to upgrade -- but not at the loss of FTW.

Hi Russ,

I have noted one problem arise that I think is associated with using FTM 16 with Vista SP2. While the program runs fine in most areas, I just noted that using the "Web Search Resources" button seems to be a problem. The search begins, the blue progress bar swings past twice and then disappears, simply leaving the rotating magnifying glass icon on the screen. It proceeds no further and simply hangs. Using the "Go Back" arrow puts me back into the program OK most times.

This occurs whether I have Windows Explorer 8 or Firefox 3.5 as my default browser. The only change to the computer since installing SP2 was the upgrade to Firefox 3.5 from 3.1.

Have you noted this problem with SP2? If not, I'll have to try some further diagnostics.

Thanks for help if you have it.

John

John,

I haven't noticed it. I have Vista SP2 and Version 16, along with Version 2009. Firefox 3.5, but not MISE 8, still on 7.

Russ,

Sometimes the touchiness of these complex machines and software interactions can just be frustrating. For the record, in case someone else ends up with the same problem, I'll give a few more details.

Clicking Web Search Resources in FTM 16 when using Vista SP2 (32 bit - thanks for the suggestions, Urlsing), the search is never completed. The blue bar disappears and simply leaves the moving magnifying class icon. The program will remain like this unless action is taken. Using the back arrow, I can return to FTM and it will seem to function fine. If I try Web Search Resources on another individual in my file, it will do the same thing. However, if I try the Web Search Resources on the same individual, FTM generates a RunTime Error and immediately crashes.

I've checked all the common culprits. I turned off my Avast anti-virus. Same problem. Turned off Windows Defender. Same problem. Turned my system back to its earliest restore point (5 days ago). Same problem. I "repaired" the FTM Vista patch. No effect.

The only significant install since installing Vista SP2 was a Windows update for .Net Framework 3.5 that was pushed out on this month's patch Tuesday.

I always liked the convenience of the search using the Web Search Resources button. Being able to customize this search helped cut through lots of clutter at times. But I guess I'll have to forgo this search option as long as I'm using FTM 16.

Thanks for the information you've provided so far. Now.... I've got a great-grandfather who seems to have miraculously appeared without any parents and years of looking haven't found them. If you could only help with this!

John

John,

Ah, an Error Message.

Please go to this website:

http://pastftm.custhelp.com/

Enter 2287 into the Keyword Search box and read that Article.

See if that resolves this.
