Looking for any info on descendants of Averis Gryder, b. 1812, d. 1910(s/o Frederick J. Gryder, Sr. & Obedience Gibbs). Averis was married twice, 1st to Margaret Ingram. 3 of their 4 children died along with Margaret of tyhoid fever. Their son Frederick Winfield Gryder survived and settled in York Co., SC area. Averis' 2nd marriage was to Mary B. Crouch. Several of the children ended up in the Belmont, Gaston Co., NC area. Son Pinkney Patrick Gryder had a son David Patrick Gryder who was living in Belmont a few years ago. A Joseph Oliver Gryder (d. 1996) was from there. Ellitha Gryder, b. 1858, d. 1923(d/o Frederick J. Gryder, Jr. & Sarah M. 'Sally' Sherrill), married Franklin Lafayette 'Fate' Stafford and resided in Belmont. They had 2 children. Frederick J. Gryder, Jr. was Averis Gryder's nephew. Franklin & Ellitha Stafford are buried at the Ebenezer Methodist Church, Belmont, NC. Would love to find any info on these descendants, especially photos (I have a photo of Averis). I am writing a book on the descendants of Conrad Grider of Lincoln Co., NC who I believe may be the grandfather of Averis. Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks! Please write to me at: Ray G. Gryder, II 3008 Homestead Dr., Petersburg, VA 23805-2345

Re: AVERIS GRYDER DESCENDANTS
Averis Gryder is my 2nd great grandfather. My paternal grandmother was Bessie Jane Gryder Watson(b 18 Aug 1882 d 25 Sep 1969), the daughter of Frederick Winfield Gryder (b 15 Jul 1852 in NC, d 22 Sep 1944 in SC). She married Rev. Earl Stacy Watson Sr. in 1916. He was a Presbyterian minister and they eventually ended up in Logan County, Kentucky about 1930. They had four living children, Elizabeth Watson Lapis who migrated to New York during WW II; Earl Stacy Watson Jr, my father, who was a farmer in Logan Co, KY; William Gryder Watson, who was a school teacher in Kentucky, and another son still living. I am interested in knowing more about your branch of the family that, I believe, starts with Averis' son James. Looking forward to hearing from you.

Interesting that you ended up in Logan, Kentucky. Averis’ mother was Obediance Gibbs and at least two of her siblings lived in Logan, Kentucky in the early 1800's. Obediance's oldest sister Susannah "Sucky" Gibbs married a Henry Dillon and moved there by 1810. A younger brother James Gibbs was a witness on Henry Dillon's will in 1844. And the youngest brother Wiley Welcher Gibbs at least passed through Logan KY around 1850 where his wife and kids were listed there on their way to Missouri. A large portion of remainder of the Gibbs clan went to Wayne, Missouri.
