Please, can anyone tell me whether a newspaper existed in Otsego County in 1898 that might have had obituaries? If so, is there microfilm available of it anywhere today? I am trying to find details about William J. Sly who was born in 1826 and died on 13 or 14 September 1898 in Vanderbilt. William is buried in Evergreen Hill Cemetery (also called Vanderbilt Cemetery). Because I do not live in Michigan, I am unfamiliar with what newspapers might have existed in the area around 1898. Thanks for your suggestions!

Try contacting the County Public Library to locate an obit.
They may have the local newspapers on microfilm.

They didn't start saving the newspaper in Otsego County until 1900, so there is no Obit. for William J Sly. What information were you looking for, William is my great great grandfather. Let me know if I can help you.

Margie: Thank you for your reply. My husband David Sly is the grandson of William. So how are you related to us? I have been doing family research. I was so surprised to learn William had two wives...we are related to him via his second wife. I was hoping to find an obituary to find out if there was any mention of all his children (several by wife #1 and only one, Frank W. Sly (David's father), by wife #2). I look forward to your reply, Janice Snyder Sly, Jasper, GA
