Has anyone read about SHEROD KINCAID and his wife, JANE HUGHS, getting murdered on their Farm just after the Civil War? It was about 1867 and the only survivor was their son, JAMES BROOKINS KINCAID. He was taken by two of his uncles, to live with HUGHS or McGee relatives in Sequoyah County, Oklahoma and then to Pryor, Oklahoma, in Wagoner County. If anyone knows where the Kincaids were buried, in which Cemetery or in what plot of ground, I would like to correspond with them. They were living in UNION Township during the 1860 Census of Newton County. Also living in their home was a young man, WILEY WILLIAMS age 22 years and an older woman, ELIZABETH STUART age 48 years. Would like to correspond with anyone that has any knowledge of the murders. Perhaps the event was published in one of the local Newspapers?

I have the Kincaids in my search. There is a newspaper record in the "Abilene Reporter" dated April 1, 1990. However it states that Sherod was killed in Taylor County, Texas in 1870. The Kincaid family history I was told is that they where killed by Indians in Buffalo Gap, Texas which is in Taylor County. I will be in Texas the first part of September and I will look for the newspaper in Abilene. I am going there for another search but I will include this one. Chester Campbell, Tucson, Arizona

Chester, It's me, Amon Kincaid, 2nd cousin to your wife Maudy Daphene Hamm Campbell. I wrote the article that was published in the Abilene Times Reporter, back in 1990. I have been trying to contact you guys for years now. I contacted your wife when she was on a vacation from Saudi Arabia back in the 1980's. She sent me the paper that was in her father's trunk and on the paper he had stated that he thought Sherod and Jane was killed in Buffalo Gap, TX. but I have other information that indicates that they were killed in Arkansas, near the Buffalo River, not far from the Township of Low Gap.
