FTM 2009 307 Not Responding

I have recently upgraded to FTM 2009 18.0.0.307
on Windows Vista SP1 (all service applied)

Since the update to 307, FTM has (7 times so far) entered the "Not Responding" state and I have had to cancel using Task Manager End Process. This has occured during fact merge.

Has anyone else seen this symptom?

Yup, I sent an error log entry to the Devs email we used during beta testing.

Brian,

I am wondering if updates aren't out of synch.

I might suggest that you uninstall 2009 then reinstall it. When you do, please reapply the current patch, bringing you back to 18.0.0.307.

I don't always recommend or suggest uninstalling, but we have had a number of updates to 2009.

I have applied each update in sequence when announced and am loathed to go the time consuming reinstallation route unless this is a definate fix as I have done this in the past to resolve other difficulties without success.

Brian,

I understand. However, I have seen a couple of cases where uninstalling and reinstalling AND applying the update has resolved a couple of issues.

Please understand that I do NOT normally suggest doing this, but in this specific case, I do.

It's happening here too.
FTM was up to date prior to this latest patch.
Applied the latest patch and now, rather than failing to merge media, but being able to continue using FTM it's hanging and failing to merge the media.
I've found that if I close and re-open the program, the fact has been merged but the media has not.

I bit the bullet!

Uninstalled FTM 2009 using Control Panel/Programs and Features/FTM 2009/Uninstall

The uninstall process did not uninstall all files in the Program Files/FTM 2009 folder. I did not record all the file names but they looked like they supported the new Publishing features installed in a previous update.

Manually deleted the remaining files and the folder.
Manually deleted all ancestry labelled cookies.
I cleared the Windows/Temp folder.
Rebooted Vista
Loaded the FTM 2009 CD and ran Install.
Started FTM which automatically detected updates were available.
Installed all offered updates to 18.0.0 307.
FTM detected the existing database and registed it in FTM.

I am working through the menus and features and can report the following so far ...

In Plan ... the Web Dashboard panel is empty.
In People ... everything appears to operate as expected.
In Places ... the map is not displayed. The map panel is empty.
In Media ... everything appears to operate as expected.
In Sources ... everything appears to operate as expected.
In Publish ... everything appears to operate as expected.
In Web Search ... totally inoperable! The working icon is displayed for a few seconds then all three panels are empty with a white background and 'greyed out' like a disabled button in Windows. Tried entering Web Search via the navigation button and by clicking a Hint Leaf in People with the same result. Print and Share are both disabled and greyed out.

All in all a dissappointing afternoon!

I will now reinstall again without updates and run a step by step update process. I will post my experiences later and consider sending my experiences to Suppot.

Did you check, File, Online? Are you Online from the Plan screen?
