Coopers of Campbell Co. TN.

I am looking for photos of Lindsey Cooper and his son Joseph Wilson Cooper. Lindsey was a well known Baptist minister in Campbell Co. after the Civil War. I would so appreciate hearing from anyone who might have a photo or know where I can find one.

Lindsey Cooper's Civil War Records are now online. I am also looking for his retirement and pension papers as he would have been eligible to download the pension files.

I hope this helps

Allen

I'm also looking for Cooper, Andrew, in Campbell Co., TN.
He is shown on pg. 160 of the 1860 Campbell Co. Census, 13th Civil District, with brothers Isaac, 12, James, 7, Amon 2, and sister Winnifee 6 months.
I can't find the previous page, 160, which would have shown me his parents and other siblings, and I desparately need this info.
Andrew was my grandfather, and I know nothing proveable about him before about 1880 when he was in Arkansas.

Becky,
Go to: http://tngenweb.org/campbell/
Campbell County has transcriptions of early census records on its website under Records/Census. You should get your answers.

Thank you. I found Andrew's parents, Eli (29) and Elizabeth (25). Strangely, I found Andrew, maybe, again in the 1870 census shown as age 11, even though the 1860 Census shows him to be 4, and I know he was born 1856, living with the Grose family, Martha 64, Amon 24, and Elizabeth 20, with other Grose children.
Does anyone have knowledge of this Grose family, and why Andrew Cooper ould be living with them?
Eli and Elizabeth Cooper are also in the 1870 Census with several children, but not Andrew.
I was told a story about Andrew's daddy (Eli?)selling slaves, receiving gold and land deeds for them. Some thieves in the area came to their home, demanding the gold, and torturing he and his wife to give it up.
The children ran for help and brought back soldiers, who killed one thief, and ran off the other two. The soldiers told Andrew's parents that the thieves would come back, and that they should send the children away for safety. Maybe this is why Andrew is living with another family???

You're most welcome. Hopefully someone researching this family can answer your other questions. You've got quite a mystery there.

Some mysteries are solved - Eli's wife was Mary Elizabeth "Polly" Gross. She died either during or shortly after the birth of her youngest child, about 1866-1870. Their son, my paternal grandfather, Andrew, moved in with his grandmother, Martha Gross, and Uncle Amon, who was a preacher, and his wife and children. Amon Gross died in 1899, around the time Andrew moved to Arkansas, where he married my grandmother, Ada Dunn.
Pieces of the puzzles are falling into place.

Forgive me if this is a silly question, but just trying to clarify here - so Andrew here was the nephew of Amon Gross (Amon Gross (1845-1899, son of Isaac Gross and Martha Patsey Whitman, husband of Elizabeth Cooper)?

Then who was Andrew's father? I have the above Amon Gross on a tree, but I don't have him with any siblings.
