My father & his brother, Leonard R. & Edgar P., and my grandparents, Edgar & Clementine Dhuyvetter, were from Belgium and immigated to the U.S.of A. sometime in the early 1900's, settling in Moline, Illnois.
I know my grandparents changed the spelling of 'Dhuyvetter' when they came to this country, only for the simple reason to make it a little easier for others to pronounciate and to spell.
Please, let us talk further on our 'un' common name ... who knows, we may well be related! Take care and I hope to hear from you soon!

Sincerely,
A. Renee Dhuyvetter

apparently to make it easier to spell and pronouncethe original spelling of Dhuyvetter was different

My Mother is a DeVetter also. Her Father (David) was born in the Moline, IL area to Edward DeVetter and McClaire LaPlant. Edward's parents were, as far as I can tell, Emil/Mell/Emiel DeVetter (the spelling was also noted as Dhuyvetter) and Mary Louise Dollander. According to my Grandfather (who is now deceased) all his birth records were destroyed in a church fire.

Any way, I have never been able to get beyond Emil and Mary, perhaps because of the spelling and the lack of records. I noted an Edmund DeVetter who was born in 1872 in Kaprijke, Belgium and he would fall into the same generation as Emil. I am wondering if anyone has made the tie betweent the two? I show Edmund's Father as Charles Lewis Dhuyvetter and Mother as Pelagie Windey. I also show his spouse as Maria Cauwels. The one thing I don't find in the listing of his brothers and sisters is anyone by the name of Emil. Thus, I can't seem to find all the pieces to this puzzle.

Can anyone out there help me fill in the gaps? Thanks,

Joe Pigeon

Hi, My grandmother was Stephanie Louise DeVetter, born on 2-14-1883 in Destelbergen and died 4-11-59. She was the daughter of Petrus DeVetter and Sabinna VanNieuwenhuyze of Destelbergen, Belgium. My mother came to America in 1948 and lives in Michigan. My grandmother died in a institution in Melle, Belgium, run by nuns and is buried there.
This is all the information I know about that lineage.
Thanks for answering the querry.
