I found this new database yesterdayat Ancestry. It about floored me. You can search so many various ways with it, if you type in where born, such
as Kemi or even Calumet Michigan you get lists up.. Some also have passport photos.
An example

U.S. Passport Applications, 1795-1925
about Johan A Hilden
Name: Johan A Hilden
Birth Date: 25 Jun 1853
Birth Place: Parish of Kemi, Fairland
Residence: Calamat Hughton County, Michigan
Passport Issue Date: 17 Mar 1900
Passport Includes a Photo: N
Source: Passport Applications, 1795-1905 (M1372)
... born on or about the 25th day of June 1853 that I emigrated to the United States sailing on board the Steamer Egypt from Liverpool England on or about the 6th of August 1887 , that I resided 12 years in the U.S. from 8/18/87 to 3/12/00 at Calumet, I was naturalized as a citizen of the U.S .... Houghton Michn on the 3rd of August 1896....

The oddest one so far, is this one born in Alabama Finland. A look at the application is Alaharma. I have been doing
corrections at Ancestry on names and it looks like these will need some work. Creative spelling.
U.S. Passport Applications, 1795-1925
about Manuel Helli
Name: Manuel Helli
Birth Date: 8 Jan 1885
Birth Place: Alabama, Finland
Residence: Ironwood, Michigan
Passport Issue Date: 16 Mar 1914
Passport Includes a Photo: N
Source: Passport Applications, January 2, 1906 - March 31, 1925 (M1490)
best regards,
Alicia

It is a pay site at ancestry.com
It has people applying for passports in the U.S. to visit their ancestral homeland.

I have been trying to play around a bit with it even though I don't have a subscription. Haven't found anything on my ancestors but even the free stuff might be useful. Yesterday Ancestry had it featured as a new database with a star by it. I hope this helps those that cannot afford a subscription but are still trying to find out some information to at least point you in the right direction.

It was just reported on Finngen that the passport site is
free to search right now. I would advise people to take full advantage of it.
Try filling in just birthplace such as Laurium, etc and search. You may get more hits.

I forgot to say that there are two pages to every passport application which give more information. Some have photo
id's on them.

I was hoping to get a translation on my grandmother's passport by using this cite. I had hoped to get more information on her. It is in German as she left from Bremen, Germany in 1906. I can't seem to pull up her passport even though I have a copy of it. Any suggestions as to what I am doing wrong? We are subscribers to Ancestry.com and use it a lot.
