If you have access to old Harrisburg newspapers, could you look up the obituary of John S. Detweiler, who died August 16, 1878? I am primarily researching his son, William C. Detweiler, but I have very little information on him and am hoping to find out the cemetery of John S. Detweiler's burial; thinking perhaps his son may have been buried there also.
Thank you very much for any assistance!

YES!! :-) I am looking for a birth record for Abraham Zeigler/Ziegler/Zigler born to Joseph and Catharine Zeigler about 1854 in Harrisburg. I am also looking for the details on a court record for Abraham located on Misc. & Ejectment Index of Dauphin Co., PA - Docket #154 Apl 1886 - Filed Feb 20 1886 - Nature of Proceedings - Lunacy (maybe there are some newspaper articles about what he did to put himself in the Asylum) Abraham is my gg-grandfather and he married Elenora Riddle about 1881 in either Dauphin or Mifflin Co. I don't believe there is a marriage certificate but maybe a newspaper article? They had three children in Dauphin Co. Herbert b.1883, Elva b.1884 and Esther b.1885 Anything that you can find on Abraham Zeigler would be wonderful. Thanks! Heather in Vancouver, WA

One of my ancestors, Alexander Hamilton Shrenk / Schrenk owned a store (furniture & auction) sometime 1890-1920s at 325 Broad & 406 Forster in Harrisburg PA and 325 Broad 1906 N 6th in Harrisburg PA and also a furniture store at 181 S Front Hbg Steelton PA about 1890. He died in 1935 and I have his obit and a pic of his gravestone. The street name may have changed but he was the proprietor of a furniture store in Verbeke street for nearly fifty years. I think he owned the store until sometime in the 1930s but I do not know if it was sold when he died. Would like some history on this furniture/auction business. Where are the building located today and wondered if are there were any postcard pictures of them? Also would love to have a picture of my great great great great Grandma's gravestone. Her name was Anna ( Machen) Shrenk. Anna was born 11 DEC 1780 in Dauphin Co., PA. Her husband, Martin died 22 DEC 1825 in Swatora twp., Dauphin Co., PA at age 38 of brain fever. Anna died 19 APR 1858 in Harrisburg, PA. She is buried in Harrisburg Cem, Plot B-46. I do not know of there is a gravestone. Her sister was Elizabeth ( Machen) Pancake, wife of Peter Pancake. Her daughter was Elizabeth, wife of Phillip Ensminger of Harrisburg, PA. Another sister, may have been Mrs. Joseph Bretz. But I do not know if they are buried near her. Thanks, bonnie

There is something that I could use a little help with. My uncle Charles Schreiber is supposed to have died in or around Harrisburg. My dad says he is buried there, but no one seems to remember where or even when he died. For some reason he is not mentioned in the Social Security Death index and we are not in contact with any of his known children. He has a son and daughter that I know of. One named Marshal and the other named Myrtle. Myrtle's current whereabouts are unknown. The only possible lead I have for Marshal is a U.S. Public Records Index entry for him in Harrisburg at 1128 G Cloverly Rd. I don't know if the address is still valid or not. My uncle Charles was born about 1922 and was married to a woman named Vera (unknown maiden name). Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Anyone need anything from the Harrisburg, PA area?

What an offer - posted on Valentine's Day yet! I'll lead with the earliest recorded question: is there any information about Fanny (maiden name unknown) MARTIN b. 1756 d. 31 Mar 1822. Learning her family name and the given name of Mr. MARTIN, where they are buried, when they were married would be enormously helpful. Their only child, Thomas D. MARTIN b. 8 Apr 1796 d. 15 May 1823 - perhaps a birth/death record for him would show his father's name. Thomas m. Hannah CLARK (b. 1798 d. 27 Nov 1875) and they had one son, William Davison MARTIN b. 29 Jul 1820 d. 2 Mar 1896. William Davison MARTIN (above) m. Eve A. FAUST 14 Mar 1843 and they maintained a tailor shop in Harrisburg for many years. One of their sons, my ancestor, John Hancock MARTIN b. 4 Jul 1850, married Mary Jeffries LINN (1850-1937) and was also a tailor in Harrisburg until they moved to Kansas City, Mo. about 1890. (I know nothing of the LINN family except that Mary's mother was a DEAN.) Names and dates for my ancestors were taken from a family bible and I know little, if anything more, about the years in Harrisburg. I would be glad for any bit of information about them and appreciate your generous offer.

Re: Anyone need anything from the Harrisburg, PA area?
Classification: Query
Surnames: SNIDER, LEGSBY
I am doing genealogy research on my ancestor Peter Snider. In a book Washington County Tennessee Deeds 1775-1800 there is a section "Land Sales Proven in Court". In the May 1796 term of court, the following entry is recorded: Peter Snider and his wife, Elizabeth, to John Legsby, 11th part of 206 A. in Dauphin Co., Pennsylvania; Elizabeth was examined separately. This sounds as if it could be a sell of property inherited or jointly owned by 11 people. I would like to get a copy of this record and any other documents associated with it, especially if it involved settlement of an estate. If you could find any information on this I would be glad to reimburse any copying and mailing costs.

Yes, thanks for your help. I am looking for an obituary for Howard Bayley who died July 4, 1920 in Norwalk, CT. His obit there said he was buried in Dauphin, Dauphin Co. His wife Cora was born in Dauphin and they used that for their permanent residence although they lived in NYC and Pittsburgh. I don't know what cemeteries there might have been in Dauphin in 1920, and I am hoping that there was an obituary in a local paper there which mentioned the place of burial. Do you know what cemeteries were in use in Dauphin in 1920?
