Hi
I have just started to establish the origin(s) of the name Sithole. My farther is a Ndau from Zimbabwe. I need to know whether, Sithole is originally from Zim or Mozambique as there are Ndau people there. In South Africa, there are people with Sithole name.

Hi
History tells me that, when Soshangane came to settle in Ndau area running away from Zulu battles(under Shaka), he found Ndau people. Soshangane(also known as Manukosi, the grand father of Ngungunyana) and his people(Known as Gaza Nguni) reached the central Mozambique and earsten Zimbabwe which already inhabited by Ndau people in 1820's. For decades, the Ndau people were prejudiced by the Nguni speaking people(especially Ngungunyana). I am atold that Soshangane ruled over a military state with age regiments for male warriors based on the Zulu model in South Africa.
However, centuries earlier, Shona speaking(Karanga) chieftancies) had dominated some of the same TSONGA speaking groups that came to live under Soshangane(mind you, the Ndau people were always there, as Ndaus with their Ndau Chieftancies). At the beginning of the 19th century, the Tsonga chieftancies, had asserted their autonomy to establish themselves as culrurally distict from Ngunis and Ndaus. They then called themselves Shangani(after Soshangane) the first Gaza Nguni leader, who settled in their midst.
I would agree if you say, during the interaction and cross OR INTER marriages amongst Ndaus, Gaza ngunis, and Shanganis, SURNAMES AND TOTEMS WERE ALSO shared. thus, you may find Sitholes amongst all these groups. But thanks for your input, my search si still on, Hope to get more input on this subject.
Pleasee can you give me, the Sithole salutation, for example, Sithole Moyo or Chirandu or Mapfudze or Ntini. I am not sure. if you know this. Please help me.

Hi Brother
Thanks for your input, at least I am happy that, I am not the only one puzzled by our surname. My father, and his relatives in Zim, told me that, they came from a area called Gogoyi(this area is said to be on the border of Moz and Zim, before the borders were erected)
it is then clear that, the Ndau people or Ndau areas, was splitted when the colonisers(the Portuguese and British) erected the bounderies. thus there are Ndau people in Mozambique and in Zimbabwe. That is one theory!!
Take care
