Notes for DICY P. GRUBBS:
Dicy died at
Fitler,
Issaquena Co., in the Delta of Mississippi. Vernie and husband, John, and Vennie and daughter, Loraine, travelled to the Delta and brought Dicy's body to
Simpson Co. for burial in
Merit Cemetery. Loraine, only four at the time, remembers seeing her grandmother's body and how strange it seemed for someone to have coins covering the eyes.

Notes for RICHARD THOMAS BROWN:
In 1913, R. T. took his family from Simpson County to
Fitler in
Issaquena Co. There he earned a living as a blacksmith and a carpenter. As the older children had married and had families of their own, the Brown family now consisted of R. T. and Dicy and children, Sudie, Myrt, Vernie, F. M., R. J., and L. E.
The children were told they could farm the land and keep all the money they made!
R. J. Brown 01/25/2001
R. T. came to
Simpson Co. for Dicy's funeral. He stayed with Mack and Vennie and returned by wagon to the Delta to gather his belongings. He was planning to come back to Simpson County to live. While at
Fitler in
Issaquena Co., MS, he developed pneumonia and died several days later. His body was returned to
Simpson Co. and he was buried next to Dicy in
Merit Cemetery.
