Jacob SEELBACH and his wife Elizabeth are found in the 1880 census of PA, listing their place of birth as NASSAU. Jacob b. 5 Aug 1830 was a Civil War vet who is bured in Bradford PA.
Their daughter, Catherine, married Daniel DUNKLE and are also buried in Bradford. Catherine had siblings Louis, Emma, Mary, Caroline and Charles.
Jacob's father, Henry was also a resident of NASSAU, possibly also born there.
Since many of the Bahamas web site links do not work I would appreciate information on contacting the historical societies and vital records offices. Catherine Seelbach was my great Grandmother.

Larry,
Since this is a 10 year old message, you probably have the info already, but in case you're still searching:
The Jacob Henry Seelbach you mention is my great-great grandfather. He was born in Nassau, GERMANY, not the Bahamas. My great grandfather was Charles, and I have very little information on either of them.
My grandfather, Henry Jacob SeelbaUGH, Sr. (note the spelling change) passed in 1973, and my father, Jake Jr., still lives in the Youngstown, OH area.
If you have in the past 10 years found any info on Jacob Henry Seelbach, I'd be interested in learning it. If not, hopefully I've helped to give you a new lead.

Almost had to make trip to learn more of B ahamas and BWI. If you have world membership go to BWI. Your family should be in records. I am looking for an oral surgeon Robert Joseph Saunders who immigrated to states via Louisiana early 1900s. Married another dentist and lived in MA. Listed birth as Mariguana Jamaica and also England. English populated Bahamas and Jamaica for years before entering states. I will keep you posted as to how we finally were able to get some records but not many. You can go to tourism in Bahamass site to see if there are archives and try world project by ancestry.com. I am still looking for answers. Check immigration records of your surname around certain years and you will probably come up with something leading you to other places. Look into the source at bottom of page especially and click on that for more info. Hope this helps.

Sorry, read this last. Do you know whom I was seeking info on? I do ancestry on missing persons also and families who lost a member and didn't know history of family. Very interested in Robt. Saunders and Mary Thompson listed as leaving Kingston on ship to Louisiana probably around late 1800s I tink. Census says born in England however papers show Mariguana, BWI. Do not know where he met and married Mary Thompson. Thank you.

Hi again. Looking for a Cumberland Saunders who tried to immigrate to states from Jamaica but looks like he may have died at sea around late 1800s or early 1900s. Robt. Saunders made it up to MA and was oral surgeon there.

I learned to look up vacations in Bahamas. Check with their Chamber of Commerce or historical societies by email. A small island called Maraguana which is southern most island in Bahamas is island I am searching Robt Saunders born there or in England. Still haven't learned why English went there except as overseers.
