Looking for info on the Hillside Home which was located in Bridgeport, which I believe was a facility, for among other things, alchololics. My mother remembers visiting her Grandfather, going there by streetcar in the late 20s early 30ths. Have tried contacting social services, but no one seems to have any info or knowledge.Any info would be appreciated.

I was looking for a similar place in Mass. and NOBODY had ever heard about it. So I went to the 1920 census and found the page it was listed on. Once I had the exact name of the facility, it was easier to find info about it. Took a bit of work but once I nailed down the location, I found it with little effort. There were also many TB sanitoriums during that time period, altho I doubt you would be visiting someone there if you were a child. Let me take alook and see what I can come up with.

My great-grandfather died at Hillside Home in April 1938. I would assume the home was for all types of patients as he died from colon cancer. I asked my father if he remembered anything about the place, but no luck. I searched Google, but found no other info. Good luck in your search.

Hi, from what I remember Hillside Home was off Granfield Ave. and Hillside Ave. in Bpt. Part of it was also an old age home for the destitute. Next to it was another facility, can't recall the name right now. for communicable diseases like Scarlet fever. Maybe Englewood hosp. I think Bullard -Haven Tech. school was built on the property after it was torn down. Call the library on Middle St. They have a lot of records including old newspapers. Can't help you myself, now live in FL..

It's called Bridgeport Manor today and is a nursing home for the elderly. Located at 540 Bond St., Bridgeport.

The old name can still be seen under their new canopy.

Hello,

I don't know if you are still searching for information on Hillside Home in Bridgeport. In the 1930 census, it was District 12, Block 865-S, Enumeration District 1-81, Supervisors District 4. You could locate those pages with all the names and read down the names just in case your relative's name was misspelled.
