According to "Place Names of Washington" by Robert Hitchman, 1985, Washington State Historical Society, Penawawa was a village 12 miles west of Almota, where Penawawa Creek enters the Snake River in south central part of Whitman County.

I am trying to locate a town/county called Penawawa. I believe it was in existance as recently as 1910, but I am unable to find it on any maps. Any help would be appreciated.

Don't know if you ever received a reply about this town. My mother and her family moved to Penewawa, WA in about 1918 so it was still a functioning town then. Her youngest brother was born there and the family lived there for three years. They later moved on to Seattle and the town is no longer there. My mother and my sister revisited there about 1980 at which time it was under threat of being flooded by a dam construction on the Snake river. That has since happened and I visited the area in 2010 and all that is there now is a railroad track that runs along the edge of the river. You can still search Google maps to see where it was located, My mother's maiden name was Tucker.

Penawawa Township was located in Whitman County, Washington. I believe it was the Little Goose Dam that flooded out the former town site.
