I need to know how to go about finding a record for the birth of Augustus Downey, born 11 July 1834 in Leeds Cty, Bastard District, Ontario, Canada. His parents were Calvin C. Downey and Nancy Myers. Also need to know if Calvin and Nancy were married there, probably between 1825 and 1826. Any help appreciated. Please e-mail me at colleenmorse@yahoo.com

I have relatives from Bastard and I also have a Marshall who married into the family but I have very little info on her.
She appears to be a native American and I know she spent time in Polk, Minnesota before getting married and moving to Hillman, Michigan around 1880.
Her name is Elizabeth Marshall and was born March 17, 1857 supposedly in Ontario.
Any connection to your family?

My relatives in Bastard, Leeds, Ontario during the 1800's are Myers and Dickson plus those who married into those lines. Richard Myers who married Mary Close traveled from England to Canada in 1816.

This information comes from the writings of Karen Geoghegan Riess of Ontario, Canada. Karen was assisted in her research by Vera Kitson also of Ontario, Canada.

Calvin C. Downey married Nancy Myers on April 3, 1826 in Bastard Township, Leeds County, Ontario, Canada.

Both Calvin and Nancy's burial was in Webster, Illinois.

Their 5th child, Augustus Downey, married first to Nancy Ludington. He married second to Martha Lindsay on Nov. 6, 1858 Agustus died on June 14, 1882 at the age of 87.

Do you know the source of the marriage record?

I am looking for Bastard marriages from 1824 to 1835 for the Morris family that don't show up in the Anglican Archives or any of the traveling minister records I have found so far . . . I am also looking for birth records from the same timeframe. . .

Karen Geoghegan Riess obtained some of her information from the book, "My Own Four Walls" by Diane Haskins, Council of Bastard and South Burgess Townships, 1985, pages 189, 215-216, & 230.
