How do I find the actual day, month, and year of a birth, marriage and death in England. I have searched on a number of websites and can only find the year. I get a document but it only shows the registers in 3 month intervals. Do I have to actually order the document to find out this information?

What you are seeing is the GRO index, which shows registrations by quarter. You will need to buy the certificate itself to see the full information.

Go to www.freebmd.org.uk/Certificates.html for a guide to what the certificate will show.

Certificates can be purchased direct from www.gro.gov.uk the cost is £9.25 including postage and they take about a week to arrive. Buying from third parties will cost a great deal more and take a lot longer!

I have generally found that it is necessary to order BMD docs. for precise dates.
However, occasionally I have found dates on line in Parish Records (often date of, for e.g christening rather than birth, burial rather than death date - sometimes both). "Family Search" will sometimes have this info.
For deaths some local authorities have cemetery records on line. Public Family Trees on Ancestry can also be useful.

Thank you very much for your info. Ordering from the GRO is much less expensive than from sites I have seen. I live in Surrey, BC Canada and I just ordered my grandparents marriage certificate from England.
