Robert Avery [Bob] BARNES

It is told in the family that this gentleman played for the Chicago White Sox during the 1920’s.

Sure enough I found a Bob BARNES on a list of White Sox players but his career appeared short lived. His first game being on July 8th 1924, with his last game on July 10th 1924, a rather short, two game career?

Bob BARNES Stats

Bob BARNES was born on Monday, January 6, 1902, in Washburn, Illinois. Barnes was 22 years old when he broke into the big leagues on July 8, 1924, with the Chicago White Sox.

The problem I have is that of pinpointing his BARNES family. I supposed that his father was a BARNES born in England. Sunderland, Durham preferably. However, none of the Illinois BARNES families, as shown in the 1910 and 1920 census returns appear to match this profile.

Could our Bob be the Robert A. BARNES, shown in the 1930 census, Single, as an Attorney in General Practice who I found lodging with Charles A. BUCK at his Grocery Store on High Street, Lacon, Illinois?

It may just happen that a member of the family is a subscriber to this list or that a subscriber knows the family?

All leads towards solving this problem would be most appreciated.

Many thanks for any assistance

Dear Laststone,

Really appreciate the posting.

I have actually made contact wth this gentlemans son yet we are unable to find any reason that we are related or that why such a short career in the Whitesox should have created a response in the UK.

Just one of lifes Family History mysteries.

Thanks

Rod
