Hi,
My g-g-grandmother was Sarah Ann Yearsley, born 14th September 1855, Box? Bridge? Lane, ?, Monmouth. Father: Thomas Yearsley, haulier. Mother: Caroline Yearsley, nee Gl??????. According to the 1881 census, Thomas was born in Dixton, Monmouth, c1818, and Caroline was born Monmouth, c. 1824.
As you can tell, Sarah's birth certificate isn't very legible! Also, Thomas registered the birth with an 'X'. Does anyone know anything about these Yearsleys?
Thanks! Helen.

Re: Sarah Ann Yearsley, Monmouth
Hi Helen, How did you get on researching your Monmouth Yearsleys? have you made any progress since we last spoke about 3 years ago!! My Yearsleys are from Redbrook (just over the river on the Gloucestershire side) and from Ruardeane, Mitcheldean and Gloucester etc. They are probably related. Did you ever contact Glen Yearsley? We share the same ancestry. He's the worldwide co-ordinator for the Yearsleys. Would love to hear how you are getting on, Cheers, Gwyn Dalley

Re: Sarah Ann Yearsley, Monmouth
Hi Helen.
Sarah Ann Yearsley was a 1st cousin 3 times removed to me. Thomas her Father was the son of John Yearsley & Sarah Unknown. I Have John born 1787 & Sarah 1786. Both were born in Monmouth. My line is descended through Thomas's younger Brother John who was born Monmouth 1821. There was another brother James born Monmouth 1829.
Regards
John.

Re: Sarah Ann Yearsley, Monmouth
Hello Gwyn,
Yes, I've just contacted him. I've had some more progress using all these nice censuses on here, which weren't so easy to get hold of back when I was looking first time round.
I have my suspicions that her mother's maiden name was Howells, based on a nephew called Howells being in the Yearsley house in the 1891 census. On another census there's some Howells living two doors away from them (and I've noticed the Victorians loved having their family live nearby!). But of course, Sarah's father may have had a sister who married a Howells, so I don't know.
Thanks for your reply, anyway! ;)

Re: Sarah Ann Yearsley, Monmouth
I too am descended from John Yearsley b1821 through his oldest son John b1846. Just recently I accidentally discovered that Sarah Ann's sister Jane b1858 married an ornamental wire worker from Paddington called George Pearce and thought the contributors to this thread might be interested. Jane [5] Yearsley (Thomas [4], John [3], Joseph [2], Thomas [1]) b1858 Monmouth. Married George Pearce 1880D in Kensington, London. He was born 1856 in Paddington, London and was an ornamental wire worker. In 1881 they were living at 11 Braden St, Paddington and were still living in Paddington in 1911. Re: Sarah Ann Yearsley, Monmouth
Hello Helen; In your message regarding Sarah Ann Yearsley you have her mother as Caroline Gl?????. Is it possible that her name is Caroline Gladden or Gladding?
Here is what I have: Thomas born July 05, 1818 in dixton may have married Caroline Gladden on July 30, 1843. She was baptised September 22, 1823 - Monmouth. thomas passed in 1903 and Caroline passed in 1894. Sarah Ann was baptised September 14, 1855 in Monmouth. I have no further information on Sarah Ann and would like to here from you on what you may have for her.
Does this fit your information? Thank you Glen A. Yearsley

Hello Glen, I don't know how, but I worked out in the end that she was a Gladden (I think I just got better at reading bad handwriting!). I went on the Forest of Dean site a few months back and found their family.
Caroline: Baptism 22 Sep 1823. Parents James (a waterman) and Jane.
I found 5 children for them: Charloes 1818-, Hannah 1821-, James 1821-, Caroline 1823-1894 and Sarah 1823-.
I haven't been able to find Thomas & Caroline's marriage yet, though!
This is from Caroline's death certificate: Died Swifts Building, Granville St, Monmouth. Wife of Thomas Yearsley, a general labourer. Cardiac disease, dropsy. Certified by FBW Jones. Registered by Jane Pearce, daughter. Present at death. Residence of Jane: Swifts Building. Registered: 24/07/94 (which is also the date of death).
I've found 5 children for Thomas & Caroline: Caroline 1850-, Sarah Ann 1857-, Jane 1858-, Mary Ann 1860-.
Sarah Ann is my great-great-grandmother, who married Albert Arthur Wellington Payne in Kensington in 1880.
