All 5 of their daughters were in born in Jackson County...beginning in the 1880s. They were Sarah Eva (my G-GM), Cora, Ethel, Hattie, Elizabeth and Martha May.

The family is listed in the Clinton County ILL 1900 Census....but no mention of Alice.

Thanks!

Oops...the William I am seeking was born in Indiana.

According to the 1900 Census...his daughters were Cora 1885 (m. George Thomasson), Elizabeth 1886 (m. Julius Held), Sarah 1880 (m. William Poole Jr.), Ethel 1887, Hattie 1883 and Martha.

thanks for your input....I didn't know that they also had a son

Hi again, yep, I went by the 1900 census when trying to track back - which is why I find it strange there is a record for a son between that named couple but, no girls - also, that son does not appear on the 1900 census with the girls and I cannot find a death....

Have you evidence that Alice is the mother of these girls? Was William married before as he was quite old for 1st time round family?

A very distant cousin through marriage had the information that all the girls were Sarah's sisters and that Alice was her Mother. I have found a death certificate that verifies Alice was her mother.

The only other info I have is that Sarah married William H. Poole in August, 1899 in Grassy Forks

What a puzzle....
I have since learned through an obit. that Wm. was indeed married to Nancy J. Bahall. They also had a daughter. I found a census where Nancy had remarried and Albert, John and Rachael (born in 1875) were living w/ Nancy's second husband (Leander Mantle). The obit. mentioned the two boys, the youngest 5 daughters and Rachael (Mrs. Owens)....but no mention of Sarah.

The obit. states that Wm. married Alice Winkler in 1882 but Sarah was reported to be born June 21, 1880. I have also obtained a photo of the 6 younger girls...Sarah has dark curly hair and a slightly darker complexion and the younger 5 have straight blonde hair and are fairer. I wonder if there was a wife between Nancy and Alice.

Wm. later married Julia Blackwell in 1913 after Alice's death (1891).
