Getting a PAF copy

Getting a PAF copy

I have been using PAF for at least 20 years, but somehow when I went to open my geneaology file, it said I was missing a .dll file and would not open. I tried both files I had and neither are working. Would someone be able to send me a copy of the setup or exe file so I can open my genealogy? Also, since PAF is no longer supported by the LDS site, I would like to consider changing programs, but really don't know which to go with. Any suggestions? I would like to have one that would print out for me in somewhat of a "book" format, which would include all info I have entered as well as all photos. I am unfamiliar with most of the software available so really have no idea which would be a good choice, as well as one that would be compatible with PAF so I don't have to reenter 10,000 names and information. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Check my earlier post about downloading a copy of PAF 5:

Dick Eastman has reviewed a number of genealogy database programs on his blog, but you'll have to dig around a bit using the search box to find them:

Wikipedia has a comparison of genealogy programs:

I still use PAF 5, though I also have Ancestral Quest, which allows you to use your PAF databases directly without having to change the data file format.

At the Family History Center where I volunteer, RootsMagic and Legacy are popular with some of the other volunteers.

Some of these other programs will read in and convert your PAF database directly, others will require you to export your PAF file to a gedcom, then import the gedcom to the new program. I've heard that transferring links to pictures, etc. can be a problem when switching programs.
