Francis Ireland Moats, professor of history died in Indianola October 24, 1960; born at Villisca, IA Dec 1, 1884. The son of Harvey B. & Alice C.Hammil Moats; attended school in Taylor County, Simpson Academy, and taught school in Taylor Co, 1906-1907. Grad from Simpson College 1913:Masters from Northwestern Univ in 1915: taught 1 year Montana Wesleyan Univ 1916-1917; Married to Fanny Caroline Steves in San Francisco, CA June 6, 1918. commissioned a first lieut. of Inf at the 2nd training camp in San Francisco, served at Camp Fremont from Jan - Sep1918 and with the AM Expeditionary Force in Siberia till discharged 6 May 1919. Returned to teach at Montana Wesleyan, 1919-1920. Taught at IL College in Jacksonville, IL 1920-1921, Then began 32 year as professor & Head of history department at Simpson College, ....together with Mrs. moats for years in developing flower gardens in Indianola by the renamed of North Park in July 1957....survived by his wife & 2 sons, Robert Ryder, Saratoga CA & William Alden Moats, College Park, Maryland.
