Looking for WW1 records for Great Uncle

Does anyone know how to find WW1 records of German soldiers? My Great Uncle was Wolfgang Hautmann and he was in the 25th Bavarian Infantry killed on April 7, 1916. I have his personnel roster but we would like to know any details of his death and if he was awarded any medals. We also would like to know if he was buried or MIA. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
Kristina

Hi Janice

Yes, that is the record I already have. I don't know how to continue on with my research from here to find out if Wolfgang Hautmann is buried anywhere. I do know he was killed in France at Verdun on April 7, 1916. He was the son of Karl August Hautmann and Anna Maria Nickl from Roslas, Germany.

Thank you for your reply!
Kristina

There is an entry in the German war graves database, but it states that they have yet to identify his grave.

There is a regimental history of sorts for the unit, however, it is unfortunately quite brief. It probably doesn't have an honor roll, which sometimes indicates the nature of the casualty.

There is also the database of the German casualty lists currently being compiled.

Wolfgang Hautmann

Thank you very much for posting that information. This at least answers the question if he had a grave in Verdun. He does not but is still listed as dead and a missing person. That just might be the only closure there will ever be. Thanks again.
