I grew up next to an old one room schoolhouse in Moltke Township. From what I was told it was first used as a regular one room schoolhouse, then later was used by the Immanuel Luthern Church for bible school. I attended bible school classes there one summer. It is located on Church Hwy, right next to the parsonage for the Lutheran Church there.

There is a Misiak School out near Misiak Road. It's still there and is used now as a deer camp. The school was built by my great, great grandfather.

Refer to the Cheboygan Tribune, 16 Oct. 02. There is an article re the Grace School in Bearinger Twp, now an historic site. Bearinger Twp. treasurer, Gary Mack worked hard to achieve this as an historic site. The bldg is now the township hall.

My g-grandfather built the Klee School (still standing) on Klee Road, Belknap Township.

My mother went to a school that was located on the corner of 441 Hwy and Hagensville Road, Belknap Township --don't know the name of the school or what happened to it.

There are the remnants of a school on Wenzel Hwy, Rogers Township the property was originally owned by the Yerks family. Las time I looked the water pump and the front door step was there.

I cite from an article in The Onaway Outlook, 23 March 1988, "Happenings in Bearinger Township." The information is from the memory of Charles Schell Jr.a long time resident of Bearinger Township.

"In the early days of the township, there were four schools. The Grace Harbor School was about five hundred feet north of the Black Mallard River, close to Lake Huron. There was another school at the Hammond's Bay Coast Guard Station. A log school (Grace School) was in operation about one half mile north of the town hall, and another school house was on the corner of Bluff Road and Black Mountain Road in Section 28. They hired one teacher for one year. She taught at all four schools, three months in each one."

My dad, Bill Hayner, taught at the Hackett Lake School in the 1930s. He lived with families near the school during the school year. The school was/is located 5-6 miles southeast of Onaway.

We live in the old Heslip (sp?) School on County Road 441 near Section 12 Hwy. I would love any information about our house.
