I cite from an article in The Onaway Outlook, 23 March 1988, "Happenings in
Bearinger Township." The information is from the memory of Charles
Schell Jr.a long time resident of
Bearinger Township.
"In the early days of the township, there were four schools. The Grace
Harbor School was about five hundred feet north of the Black
Mallard River, close to Lake
Huron. There was another school at the Hammond's
Bay Coast
Guard Station. A log school (Grace School) was in operation about one half mile north of the town hall, and another school house was on the corner of Bluff Road and Black Mountain Road in Section 28. They hired one teacher for one year. She taught at all four schools, three months in each one."
