I am searching for the parents of John W. Branch who settled in AL about 1848. He was born in NC according to census records. His birth should have been about 1820. I have had someone suggest that there were a number of Branch families in Halifax Co.

John W. Branch married a girl named Ann W. and since an older lady was living with them, named Hannah Cannon, I feel Ann W. must have been Ann Cannon. Ann and Hannah Cannon also were born in NC.

The children were named Henry, James E, Ballard B., John A., Nancy E., Ferney M. and Martha. I have no idea where the name connections lie. All of the children but the youngest three were born in NC.

Does anyone know of John W. Branch in NC? I know they is supposed to connect back to Branches in VA. I also feel that there has to be a Ballard in the line somewhere to have a child named that.

Any ideas will be greatly appreciated.

There was a Rebecca Bradford born to Col John Bradford and Patience Reed. Rebecca was born in Dec 1752 or about. She married a John Branch. My guess is that they were married about 1785 or so. They had a son John that did become governor of the state ( 1817-1820) Later he was appointed governer in Flordia in 1844. This is all I may have on this family as it is not my direct line.. I am rrelated to Rebecca's brother Rev Henry Bradford. If you think this may be your line, please E mail me and I will look thru my many notes to see if I may have anything else... Liz

I am a descendant of John Willis Branch, who was born in Bladen County, NC. His father was Henry Branch, mother Sarah (Johnson I believe) Branch.
