I am looking for Martha PETERSEN and Lewis ERICKSEN who are both in Ohio, USA, in 1910. Martha had siblings Russell, Sam, and Tilda (married a Bureaguard?). Lewis had siblings Joe and Agnes. Martha's parents stayed in Denmark. Lewis' mother came to America, I believe. Family stories say both were born in Copenhagen, however, I have found a Martha born 1 Sep 1884 (right year) in Horsholm, Frederiksborg, Denmark, daughter of Hans Lauritz PETERSEN and Marie Sophie ERIKSEN (coincidence in name!). Also, Lewis served on the SS Hector from age 14-21 (approx 1989-1905) traveling back and forth to Philadelphia with animal hides, bones, and skulls for a fertilizer plant. According to family lore, he "jumped ship," thus there is no immigration record. I also cannot find any record for Martha's immigration. Help?

This is the Swedish board. I think you have a better chance on the Danish board.

I apologize. This was indicated as a general Scandanavia board, within the Scandanavan and Baltic States board. I only recently came to understand "Scandanavian" was what my ancestors from Denmark indicated on their immigration ship manifest, in addition to indicating Denmark as their place of birth. I thought I might find others researching my family here. I did not understand it is only for "Swedish" researchers.

This is for all scandinavian, and since Sweden is not all scandinavia this is also a place for Denmark research.

To be able to do any search you cannot just use the name to search for them in danish records you need their exact birthdate.

First search for all the info you can in the records after emigration, like census, naturalizations papers, marriage records, death records etc.

This should give you some more info to start your search with and might give you a better start in the danish records.

Thank you for your reply. With help from other posters, I am doing just as you suggested and have gathered a great deal of info, I now have ten church records that appear to be my g-grandmother and her siblings. Unfortunately, I have not found anyone to transcribe them. If anyone here can point me in the right direction, I would appreciate their trouble. The records are handwritten, cannot use web-based translators that I have found. And, if I can do anything for anyone who needs info from Central Ohio, please let me know!
