Bernadette K. "Bernie" (Marcyanis) Byrnes, 76, of Lawrenceville, passed away Wednesday, March 18, 2009, after a long illness. She was the loving wife for 52 years of the late Martin E. Byrnes; beloved mother of Michael (Kimberly) Byrnes and Brian Byrnes; daughter of the late Joseph and Eleanor (Nowicki) Marcyanis; beloved niece of the late Stephen (Virginia) Nowicki and Mary and Joseph Goralski; she is also survived by lifelong cousins, Gene Suk, JoAn and David Howe, Frank and Mary Seborowski and Tony Seborowski; in-laws, Maureen and Jerry O'Hara, Fran and Sue Byrnes as well as many other cousins, relatives and friends. Over the years, Bernie volunteered at Lawrenceville Catholic School functions, festivals and bingos at Holy Family Church and St. Stanislaus Kostka Church and helped organize pierogi sales and fish fries for Holy Family Church and Our Lady of the Angels Parish. She was also involved with the local block watch groups and other civic activities. The family wishes to thank Gloria, Deborah and Aleta who cared for Bernie during the long months of her illness. Also, the family expresses thanks and gratitude to Debbie from UPMC Nursing and the staff at Forbes Hospice for helping us make her last days at home as comfortable as possible. Family and friends received from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the WALTER J. ZALEWSKI FUNERAL HOME, 216 44th St., Lawrenceville. Funeral Mass at 10 a.m. Monday in St. Stanislaus Kostka Church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the American Heart Association or to St. Patrick/St. Stanislaus Kostka Parish in memory of Martin and Bernadette Byrnes.
