James T. Mullen is my gg grandpa also.
I know he is buried in the Dwight Cem. next to the Old Dwight Mission. It is located some miles out of Marble City Sequoyah Co. which is where he lived and was living when he died.I took a photo of his headstone and I have a copy of his death report.which states his place of burial as being the same as above.
As for Mary I can not say for sure. There was a grave beside James but no headstone. Contact Roberta ,she was the one who told me she was buried there.
Good luck and if you need a copy of grave let me know.
Last I heard of Sarah she was livingin another town can't remember the name.

Wondering if someone can confirm the burial place of my gg-grandparents.
James Thomas Mullen, b. 1841, d. Oct. 2, 1927
Mary Shepherd Mullen, b. 1847 d. June 2, 1905

James remarried to a Sarah A. Conners McMinn, so may be buried together. My info states that James and Mary are buried in Dwight Cemetery, Marble City, Ok, Sequoyah County. Any help appreciated.

I dont know if this helps any, but many years ago my mother, whose name is Roberta, by the way, went to Okla and visited her first cousin Eula who was the daughter of Suzanne Shepherd and George Mullen. George was the son of Mary Shepherd and James T Mullen. (Geo and Suzanne were first cousins you see).
We met with several grandchildren of James and Mary Mullen and they showed us their graves. James has a tombstone, Mary does not. She isnt buried right beside him, if I am remembering correctly. But I did make a diagram that day in the 1970s when we were shown where Mary Shepherd Mullen was buried. Mary Shepherd Mullen was my mothers great aunt.
I have most of my things in storage at several locations. When I can find the papers I will make them available.
Sincerely,
David Travillion Bunton

Is this Mary Shepherd the daughter of Jeremiah (Jerrymiah) and Kissiah (Kesiah, Keziah) Shepherd born in Alabama?

I may have a link to my Shepherd line.

The Mary Shepherd Mullen (or Mullin) you mention was the daughter of Rev WIlliam Silas Shepherd born ca 1807 in Alabama Territory, (what later became known as Jackson County, Ala) and his wife Sarah Jane Peters born in 1810 in Tennessee who was brought to Jackson Co, Ala by her father Henry Peters.
Rev. William Silas Shepherd was the son of Uriah Shepherd and Elizabeth Smith.
Uriah Shepherd was born ca 1780 in Virginia. By oral tradition his father was named either James or William Shepherd. By source record it appears his father William Shepherd was listed in the 1782 Montgomery County, Va taxlist, with the widow Elizabeth "Betsy" Shepherd removing just across the va and Nc state line into Wilkes County, NC for the 1790 census, 10th company where she was enumerated along with her older sons James and William Shepherd.
In her household are two males which would be Uriah and his younger brother Nimrod Shepherd.
Uriah and connections went to Knox County, Ky then to Ala, then to Arkansas Territory, then back to Ala as far as I can ascertain.
If you feel you have a connection, please let me know.
I have felt that there are other connections, particularly with some of the NC Shepherd family.
The area where the Shepherds were in Va in 1782 was Montgomery County, Va but the section later became Grayson County.

I am a descendent of Mary Shepherd Mullin.
Her dauhter Hettie was my great grandmother
Mary would be my great great grandmother.

Hettie's daughter my grandmother looked Cherokee Indina so the family believes...

Do you have anything in your family artifacts to substantiate that Hettie or Mary are Native Americans

As far as I have found there is no Indian on my Mullen side. James T. line came from France to England to this country in 1700. They were Huguenots.I have found my Shepherd line married wives with some Indian blood.
All the kids of James and Mary looked Indian and or French. I believe the Indian came from Marys Mother. My grandpa their son looked French and was called 'Little Frenchy".
Hope this helps

Hettie Mullen was the first cousin of my grandfather.

Aunt Mary Shepherd Mullen did have Cherokee ancestry through her fathers side. At one time I thought it might have been through her mother Sarah Jane Peters, but it was through the father Rev. William Silas Shepherd.

He was the son of Uriah Shepherd and Elizabeth Smith.
Elizabeth Smith was the daughter of James Alfred Smith and Nancy Mulkey, said to be Cherokee Indian.

So if Nancy was full blood, then Elizabeth Smith Shepherd, was one half, Rev William Silas Shepherd was one quarter, and Mary Shepherd Mullen was one eighth, and Hettie Mullen was one sixteenth.

However, James Mullen might have also had Indian blood, and therefore Hettie might have had some Indian ancestry on his side as well. I know that Hetties brother George Mullen married my great aunt Susan Shepherd. In his picture he has a dark complexion. Aunt Susan was very fair skinned, and blue eyed.

As it pertains to the Shepherd family, they were never admitted to the Cherokee Nation.

Would love to hear from you. Write me more on your line to me direct. travillion@hotmail.com
