The Slovak phone site is at www.zoznamst.sk
The name MULIK, NOVOTNY, PLAC'KO and DUCH list in the phone book.

Have you a name of a town that your family members came from?
Have you looked in the Ellis Island website for their manifests?

It is all in pronounciation. Plachko in English, PLAC'KO in Slovak and Placsko or Placzko in Magyar/Hungarian.

The Placskos that passed thru Ellis Island were mostly from Brezova/ Brzova. Few listings for Plac'ko in Brezova pod Bradlom's phone book.

www.zoznamst.sk Slovak Republic's phone site

The name BOOR seems to be from around Brezova pod Bradlom, Myjava. In the phone book at least. The name KARLIK lists thru the whole republic.

Surnames: Nemec, Boor, Bor
Hi Cheryl,

I believe we may be related. My great-grandfather was John Nemec, son of Stefan Nemec and Katarina Bor. John Nemec was born in 1885 in Vrbove/Verbo, Austria-Hungary (currently Slovakia). My Nemec great-grandparents settled in New Hope, Niles, Cayuga Co., NY, and they were heavily connected with the Slovak Lutheran church in Skaneateles, Onondaga Co., NY. I have heard from family members that John Nemec had one or more Boor cousins in the Skaneateles area. I would love to hear more about your Anna Boor.

All best,
Sarah
