Glaab Family of Aschaffenburg, Bavaria
My parents emigrated to the US from Aschaffenburg in 1957. My grandmother's maiden name was Katharina Glaab (1904-1962). Her father was Konrad Glaab (1878-1965), a Main River fisherman. Konrad was married to Elisabeth Dauster (1882-1961) and, in addition to my grandmother, there were Franziska, Elisabeth, Andreas & Peter (twins) and Annemarie. Konrad's father was Nikolaus Glaab (1851-1930), who was married to Franziska Weitz (1853-1930). Nikolaus Glaab was also a commercial fisherman. I remember as a child, going to the Aschaffenburg Fish Market,a weekly open-air market, where all the fishermen displayed their catches in big galvanized tubs. When a fish was sold, it was gutted and great-grandfather would throw me the bladder, which I popped by jumping on it. If there are any in the community who belong to this line, I'd love to hear from you. Glaab is not a common name in Germany and most of the Glaab's (371 surname bearers according to one source) are concentrated in the Aschaffenburg-Kahlgrund area (that is, along the river between Aschaffenburg and Frankfurt, the next major city.)

Re: Glaab Family of Aschaffenburg, Bavaria
My father is a Glaab, his father is Harry who is the son of Conrad born in 1861, Conrad is the son of Conrad (1819-1897)and Elizebeth (1821-1880), before that the father is Konrad and Katharina Reinfurth. I am not sure where this fits in with your family, as I am just getting into this, so have not went into the siblings too much.

My grandfather was John Bennett Glaab, he passed away in the late 80's, without leaving very much information about his past. I know that there were trappers when the family first came to America & that one of them married an Indian lady, Ethel Eunice or Eunice Ethel. I had a great-aunt Winifred, but she passed away before Grandpa. We're from western PA & as far back as I know, have since the family settled in the early 1900's. I am the only one who seems to remember many of the stories grandpa told & those are very sketchy, as I was a very young child.

My Great Grandmother is Regina Glaab of the very large Glaab family from New Brighton, PA. I have several Glaab photos that were in my Great Uncle's home when he passed and I went to Anaheim to see my Great Aunt Eileen and she helped me identify the people in many of the photos. Many of the people are Glaabs. My family is in the Beaver Falls, PA area and I live in Pittsburgh. I'll be happy to send you digital copies of the photos through email.
