Erin - Which family are you from? Who was or is your grandfataher? If you look on the message re: Tacy/Tessier you will see a pretty well detailed message re: the family from Frank or Francois in NY down to those in Michigan in the Frank, Joseph, Sr., Joseph, Jr. and siblings, Frank & siblings. I would be interested in hearing your lineage. My grandfather was Benjamin.

Hi Erin,

Where is your family at in Michigan. If it's Bay or Tuscola Counties, contact me. I'm part of the Henry Tacey/Tacia/Tessier line. His father was Prosper Tessier, mother Henriette Ducharme. Can help you back to Urbain Tessier dit Lavigne and direct you to resources in Canada which can fill in the blanks.

Best wishes,
Jan

My gg-grandfather was Frances (Frank) Tacey, b. 1817, Canada. He married Catherine Jennings in 1850, Sault Ste Mariee, MI. Catherine was born in MI. Their children were Louisa, Alice (my g-grandmother), Emma, Malinda, and William. All but William were born in MI; William was born in Minn. My aunt told me she always thought their name was Casey and that they were Irish. I believe it's very possible that the family was French, however. I would appreciate any info you can share with me about this family. Thanks!

...Also i've read that the french accent was hard for the census takers to understand then and Tessier could have sounded like Tacey.I haven't had much time to spend on more details. I am interested to know which Tessier's migrated to the other side of the great lakes . My side came down to the Lowville area (NE of Watertown) from Montrial Quebec Area. Sorry but thats the best I can do at this moment. Good Luck...Check out the other messages on the Tacey board I found some interesting possibilities on the connection between us ( Tessier-Tacey)

Tacey

My aunt said that her grandmother's name was Alice Mae Casey, b. Duluth, MN, 1860. However, a distant cousin who researched the family said census records show the name as Tacey. Frank or Frances Tacey was born in Canada in 1817. He married in 1850 Catherine Jennings, b. Michigan. They were married in Sault Ste Mariee, MI. I wonder if the Taceys changed their name to Casey somewhere along the way.

I have a sister named Dolores also. Do you have any information on my Frank Tacia who came to NY from Canada? He first married Julia Vassar and when she died he married Mary Foey. He and Julia had five children, Margaret, Livvie, Joseph, b 12 July, 1833, Mary and Frank. Frank's name was probably Francois Tessier in Canada and then they angligized it like they did so many at that time. Guess, Tessier in French speech sounded like Tacia. the a was dropped. I know for sure some changed their name to Tacy and some to Tacey and Casey and I have heard even Stacey. Kind of complicates things.
