I'm looking for the parents and grandparents of Orlando Hopkins CARR who may have lived in Knowlesville, Ontario County NY. His parent names may have been John and Sally/Sarah (maiden name unknown) Sally/Sarah may have died in Mayville, Chautaugua, NY 1853. John may have been born about 1783 in Knowlesville, Ontario, NY.

Dear J - Saw your post at Orleans Co, NY site. Do I take it that Ontario and Orleans Co NY were one and the same at one time? I am also curious about the family of John and Sarah or Sally Carr. Just looking to identify one James Carr bc 1764 NY (no idea where) and d May 28, 1850 PA. He's buried next to husband's ggg-gf, Ezekiel Carr bc 1813 PA, d. 1898 PA, m. 1836 to Susy Ann Marsh. Have no idea who Ezekiel's siblings or parents were. Didn't Yates Co, NY get taken from Ontario County, NY? Have looked up there before, following Robert Robinson Carr family who were down in Luzerne Co, Pa and Bradford Co, Pa and later moved to Yates Co, NY. E-mail me so we can compare Carr data. Thanks. M. Lou Benjamin, Bradford Co, PA

I'm looking for John Carr, husband of Sarah or Sally. I found Sally in the Gregory Cemetery, Town of Albion, Orleans County, NY, with many of her children... however I have not found John Carr who may have been born in Knowlesville, Orleans, NY about 1783. He and Sally had a large family. He may have travelled and lived for a time in Canada, his occupation was road building, we think.

Re: Carr ... Knowlesville
No relation, just to clarify: Original Ontario County (Canandaigua, county seat) included NY State west from Seneca Lake; then Genesee County (Batavia) split off west of Genesee River. As the Erie Canal opened, Orleans County (Albion) was split off from Genesee, 1824. Knowlesville was an active Erie Canal hamlet in the Town of Ridgeway, Orleans County between Medina and Albion.
It is EXTREMELY unlikely that any settlers were at Knowlesville before 1805 and most likely settlers came after 1824 Canal opening.
