I just read your message and am so happy to do so. I believe we have a connection to the Niksa name and family. Antoni and Katarzyna Niksa was my great great grandparents. I may have some wrong info but I know I have some correct. After years of researching I may be lucky. Katarzyna had a son Adam, Josef, and daughters Eustina and Maryann. Our Owzynski family emigrated from what is now Kapciamiestis, Lithuania in 1900-1910. The Lithuanian spelling of the surname was Ofchinskas/ski. They settled in New Haven, CT, upstate New York and Western Pennsylvasnia. I have found marriage records concerning one of our family from the late 1800s in the Bialystok, Poland archives. I've also recently seen extracts from the 1800s for Warsaw, Poland that contain records for several Owzynskis/as. This whole area was part of the Russian Empire when our ancestors lived there.

This is a fairly uncommon surname. Our family changed their surname when they entered this country.

My OWCZYNSKI ancestors were Jewish. They consistently had given names that were of biblical origin. It was traditional for children to be given the name of a recently deceased member of the family. I doubt there's a link to your Siwik ancestor.
