Have some information on Charles, Pierre, and Elisa TOUROT who settled in old Trinity County circa 1855, and am looking for more. The museum at Weaverville sent me some things, and I found a lot of other information in Upstate New York and in France.

Elisa married a man named ESTES and remained in California.

Charles is said to have remained a bachelor.

Both seem to have died in California, I would like to know when and where they are buried, and if there are any descendants.

Pierre TOUROT was born in Bavans, Doubs, France, in 1836, son of Pierre Frederic TOUROT and Marie BEUCLER; he returned to upstate New York where he died. Distant cousins in France have traced this line (which they share) back to about 1700 and the family name back to before 1500.

Spelling variations sometimes seen are TOURO, TURO, THOUROT, and there may be connections with TOURDOT.

Sorry it's taken me so long to reply, why don't you email me and we can discuss Ernest Whittic and his clan.

You are related to the ones in Trinity County, as cousins, I guess. This is how it goes (as best as I can piece together from several sources): Ernest Whittic was the son of Ernest Whittic and Emma Bryant. Ernest Whittic (senior) , in turn, was the son of Ernest C. Tourot. Not sure what the C stood for, and don't have his wife's name. But Ernest C's father was Pierre Louis Tourot, and his mother was Pauline Stokey. Pierre, Ernest C., and Pauline are all buried in Pleasant Lawn cemetery in Oswego county.

Pierre Louis was the brother to that Charles who ended up in Trinity County. The family had a mine there during the gold rush. Two sisters were Mary and Elizabeth. Elizabeth also ended up in Trinity County. Pierre Louis was there for a while but he came back to Oswego county in New York. He often went by the name Louis Tourot, and sometimes gets mixed up with my own ancestor who was also Louis but spelled the last name Turo. You can find references to your Louis Tourot and some of the others on the Oswego county USGenWeb site.

Pierre Louis was born in a town called Bavans, and there are still Tourot family members living there today who would be related to you. One of the Tourot's there has traced much of your line going back into the mid 1600s but the family in general is even older than that - back into the 1500's.. My name is Dave Tourdot (age44) my Grand father was named Charles Tourdot married to Mary and lived in south Wisconsin in the late 1800's and early 1900's. I also know his Dad my Great Grand father was also named Charles died in Wisconsin in 1880 in green county. I haven't made it to green county to see the paperwork yet. I also know that for years as a kid my Dad talked about his Mother living in California before she pasted away and my oldest brother Bill still lives out there today. Keep in touch please.

Did Elisa have any brothers or sisters that you know of. I'm a Tourdot from Wisconsin and some say only five Tourdot family came to America and all came through Upstate New York. Please let me know. Thanks.

Saw your message to my brother in-law, Gerry. From what I have been told is that the tourot's came from Montreal after arriving in the U.S.

My deceased father in-law's name is Charles. His brother Frederick/Fred is still with us and lives in Mexico, NY. I could provide a lot more info. Let me know if you are interested.
