I am seeking information re a Brinette Gellizeau supposedly a descendant of French prisoners of the Napoleonic Wars. She and others were brought to Bequia, near St.Vincent sometime in the early to mid 1800's. She allegedly married or had a relationship with Frederick Edward Chapman, who lived in St. Vincent, (he was possibly called Charles also ), and they had four sons, one of which was my grandfather Frederick Ebenezer Chapman, born 1864-1953. Any information re the Gellizeau connection would be much appreciated. Contact me directly please if you can. Thank You ...

There is a place on Bequia named Gelizeau and I know that a will exists for John Maturin Gellizeau of Bequia dated December 17, 1816. This is located at the Public Records Office(PRO) in London, England. Catalogue Ref: PROB 11/1587 Dept: Records of the Prerogative Court of Canterbury. Series: Prerogative Court of Canterbury and related Probate Jurisdictions:Will Registers Piece: Name of Register:Wynne Quire Numbers:613-650
The image contains 1 will of many for the catalogue reference. You can purchase this document online for three British pounds(as if there's any other type, smile). I recently accessed this info, so hopefully the price has not gone up.

I am looking for any information about my father Stanley Gellizeau. I was born and live in Antigua. My father lived in Antigua for a short period back in the early to mid 1960's. He is reportedly from St.Vincent. Apparently he came to Antigua as a cane cutter / sugar worker. Any information that can be shared would be greatly appreciated.

Lyndon : Hello - The only info I have thus far suggests that my great grandfather ( Chapman ) met & married a Brinetta Gellizeau , originally from Martinique & brought to Bequia . My uncle Fred Chapman ( deceased ) claimed that a gentleman named Edward Gellizeau living on Bay St. in St. vincent was related to us & was the godfather of my aunt Clara Corea , still alive in Kingston, Ontario , Canada . I will find out if this is true in the near future. Edward Gellizeau's daughter Dinah ( Mrs John D'Andrade ) was the godmother to my uncle Charles Chapman living in Rothsay , New Brunswick. I don't know if this is helpful but I hope it may lead to further useful info in your search for your ancestors . Good Luck. I will get back to this site if I find anything useful.

Just want posters regarding the Gellizeau name to know that Winston passed on in 2007, so any queries directed to him will receive no answer. I am still on the hunt for Gellizeau and am slowly getting a few more names.

Re: Gellizeau Family from Martinique
As the writer Mark Twain once observed " the reporting of my demise has been greatly exaggerated " . My name is also Winston Sardine & my father Winston V. Sardine was the person referred to by GFlorek . Dad did pass away on December 7th,2007 here in Canada but we returned his ashes to the Catholic Cemetary in Kingstown in March 08 when we came down for a family reunion in St. Vincent . So, I'm happy to say that I am still here & hopefully will be of assistance as we all strive to learn more about our ancestry . Regards to everyone ,
Winston M. Sardine
