Leopold Hartman operated a cooperage about 35 miles from Pittsburgh in the early 1850’s and the Johns family joined him there for awhile and then they all returned to New Richmond, OH to settle. Gustav must have returned there later in life with his wife Barbara. This family has ties to Evansville IN, St Louis MO and I think Terre Haute IN.

Do you know if any of your family is related to Catherine Rice (m. to John S. Yenger)? She lived in New Richmond after she was married and according to the census reports also immigrated from Bavaria.

My father’s mother was Clara Mae Yenger, born 1884? in New Richmond, OH. Father listed as John Yenger and mother as Katherine Reisz. She married William H. Powers and lived in Dayton, OH. I have a photo of Fred Yenger who was a friend of William Powers. Also the George Yenger family lived down the street from the Powers family which may be how they all met. There are also a few connections to the Heitzmans...I believe through an older sister Rose or Rosa.
