Wonder what tragedy befell this family? John Edward Parker's parents identified on death certificate: John J. Parker/Jennie Woods per son, J. C. Parker. Evidence indicates father was John E. Parker born Apr 1856 in Missouri and Serelda Jane Woods born Nov 1864 in Texas. They wed 2 Sep 1883 in Sherman, Grayson County, TX. That's also identified as birthplace on oldest son, Charley Parker's, WWII Draft Registration. Family found 1900 Lamar-Precinct 6-District 84-Images 27 & 28. "Serilda" found with adoptive family 1880 Lamar-Precinct 6-020-Image 25. John E. Parker found 1880 Grayson-Denison-006-Image 39 with parents/siblings. as HL2604 mentioned the 1900 Census of Lamar Co. but I will take it a little further: Parker, John E. age 44, born Apr. 1856 in Missouri Parker, Darilda J., age 35, b. Nov. 1864 in Texas. They had been married 17 years. Darilda had delivered 6 children with 5 still living. They were: Charley, age 14, born Sept. 1885; Ada, age 12, born Apr. 1888; Virgie, age 7, born June 1892; Eva, age 4, born Aug 1895 and Johnie, age 1, born Jan. 1899. All the children were born in Texas.

The children's plight is perplexing 'cause their father had seven younger brothers. Two of those uncles: William Franklin Parker (17 Jan 1860 - 16 Jun 1938) and Nathaniel Benjamin Parker (12 Sep 1867 - 16 May 1956) appear to have lived the majority of their lives in Grayson County.

thank you all for the input!! I too had found the census information, just do not have any familly history to compare it to. I can assume this info is the line I am trying to trace, however that has gotten me into trouble before :) Will continue to try to prove/disprove this information and try to track the known names of my John Edward Parker's children to try and make a family connection. Thanks again, it helps to see/hear the information in another light sometimes.

This Parker family was in Texas as early as 1860 Grayson-Not Stated-Image 17. Next, they were in 1870 AR-Washington-Mountain-Image 15 before returning to 1880 Grayson-Denison-006-Image 39. Please provide names/births of your John Edward Parker, wife, and kids?

Known info for Parker/Denison from family documents: Emma Evelyn Parker born 1895 in Lamar Co, Tx married Alcy R. Denison in 1913, lived in Fannin Co. Tx. Eva had a brother who lived with them in 1920, John Parker. John Parker's birth was 29 Jan 1899. Names on backs of family photos (no dates): Flouretta Parker, Aunt Evie's brother John's daughter. Group photo of J.C. Parker, Vadah B. Parker, Nina Ruth Parker, Shirley Jean Parker, Jackie Dayd Ensley (referenced as a grandson, but of who?) School photo of Nina Ruth Parker age 10, J. P. Cowen school, no other reference. So, I started searching for John Parker and his girls names and found a John Parker who married Cloie Bounds, who had children with the same names. John and Cloie were in the Nolan Co. Tx area. His death cert gave names of his parents John E Parker and Jennie Woods..... There are so many Parkers around the Grayson, Lamar, Fannin area. I have already ruled out one line I thought was possible connection. Also there has been family myth that Eva Parker's family MIGHT have come from the Indian Chief Quanah Parker family. To date, I can not prove/disprove that.

Well now! You've got the "right" family. Logon Texas Birth Index, 1903-1997 at http://search.ancestry.com/search/db.aspx?dbid=8781 John Edward Parker/Cloie Lee Bounds had: Flouretta (1922), J. C. (1926), Frankie Lee (12 Feb 1929), Vada B. (13 Dec 1930), Nina Ruth (14 Apr 1932), and Shirley Jean (9 Aug 1939). Jackie Doyd Ensley (4 Sep 1941) is/was son of Flouretta Parker/Estel Carl Ensley. Doubt they are connected to Quanah of the Comanche Tribe? John Edward Parker's WWI Draft Card in Fannin County listed his sister as next-of-kin and her husband as employer. The links are joined.

"Aunt Evie's brother John's daughter" might be a clue to other family? Possibly from the Denison-line?
|
Yes, I felt on the right track for John and Cloie family, just had a hard time making the jump to the John and Darilda Parker on 1900 census. But further inspection with magnifying glass, Darilda looks to be Sarilda (thanks for that!) which leads to another dead end (for now) as she was "adopted". Will continue to look for other clues to connect John Edward Parker to James and Mary J Parker of 1880 Denison, Grayson, Tex census. I am one of those who has to have several sources of info before I will comit. Thanks for all your input!! It has helped so much.
