I'm looking for the names of the Sturkie's that must have lived in Sturkie, Arkansas, and their descendants. I'm a Sturkie and I think they are related to me. Probably cousins. Interested in building my family tree and family history.
Thanks,
Rebecca

I have Sarah Elenore (Ona) Keller marrying W.R. Sturkie 1-26-1889 in Howell County. I believe they had at least one child, H.Forest Sturkie. Apparently, Ona died between 1900 and 1910 as W.R. Sturkie is listed with a young wife by 1910 in Sturkie, Fulton County. I have a bit more on Ona if you are interested.

I am interested in more information on Ona and any inlaws of the Sturkie's, sometimes these can be clues to other info.
Thanks, Rebecca

I am the great granddaughter of William R Sturkie. I would love more information on Sarah Ona Keller Sturkie. ( or any other of the Sturkie family)

I have learned that this was his first wife and they did indeed have a son Henry Forrest. They also had a son Oliver that died at the age of 5 in 1899. Sarah died in 1900 and is buried in Sturkie Arkansas.

William R Sturkie died in Oklahoma. buried in the Westlawn cemetery Henryetta OK His wife at the time of death was Ollie Louise Sturkie, they married in 1908. They had 4 children together, one of those being my grandmother Bertie Nahoma Sturkie.

Are you related to the Sturkies?

I would appreciate any information you might have.

Thanks

In the Fulton County Arkansas History and Families book there is a story on the community of Sturkie where I live. It mentions a William G. Sturkie establishing the first post office in 1894. This could be the same as your William R. Sturkie since many times the census records are hard to read. The story goes on to say he was born in South Carolina in 1841 and came to Fulton County from Lowndes County Mississippi sometime between 1870 and 1880. It mentions a wife, Mary Jane, and ten children but does not give the children's names.

I have lived in the Sturkie community since I was 4 months old and have heard talk of Mr. Sturkie from my parents and others of their generation but there are no descendents of him still living here that I know of. I helped write the story on the Sturkie Community for the history book but my contributions was of later years. .

My email is ndlewis@centurytel.net if you want to contact me.

Hi Joy...

I also have some pictures of William Robert Sturkie, James Bedford Sturkie, Frances Sturkie Claxton, John Sturkie and his sons and also one of their mother Mary Jane Worthington. I will forward them to you. Please give my name to the person directly related to William. I would love any info they might have or would be glad to share what I have.

I do know that some of the Sturkie family moved to California. It was John Sturkie's son Orville. He had a wife Iva and two daughters Elizabeth and Jane. I have been looking for the daughters.
