Hi, I am hoping to find information on my husbands biological parents.
His name is John Klanfer and was born in Rio on October 15, 1949.
We have a birth certificate but it is in Portugese and although I can pretty much make out the obvious things there doesn't seem to be a hospital name. It looks more like something from a city hall.
His dad's name was Karl Klanfer and his mother was Helen Thompson. His dad was a chemical engineer and worked with the leather factories. His mother was a doctor.
We know that they were not the real parents although they were listed as such on the document.
We do know that his biological father was a german doctor and his biological mother was french brazilian and possibly a nurse.
His father passed away 10 years ago and his step mother won't tell us anything and we think she knows the names of the parents.
My husband is 52 and I would love to at least find out his biological last name. He has had a good life and no regrets but I think he deserves to at least know this information.
If anyone knows anything I would love to hear from you!
If you need more information please email me.
Thank You, Marianne

I know this query from you is years old, but I just googled Uncle Karl(the real uncle and guardian of my first common-law husband, Francois Klanfer, and found your request for info. In case you're still looking: Karl's first wife was Dr. Thompson. (I still have her crimson silk damask drapes hanging in my livingroon.) After she died, he married Tante Herta, a wonderful, kind-hearted Viennese lady who I adored. They lived in Swampscott, Mass., about 20 minutes outside of Boston. Not sure what year they adopted Johnny, but I believe that he was very young at the time. I met him only once when Herta was driving me back to Toronto from a visit to Swampscott, and we arranged a brief meeting at a Howard Johnson's. He was very nice and likeable. This would have been around 1970.
If this sounds like the John Klanfer you are enquiring about and if you would like more info, I can direct you to his brother, Francois, who should know all the details, although they were never close.

Have you contacted Johnny's brother, Francois Klanfer, in Toronto? Tante Herta must be very old by now--maybe she doesn't remember.

Hello, I just came across your reply. It has been years since I have been on this site.
I am John's ex-wife. We have been seperated for five years now. I have not seen Herta for five years. I did speak with her once about 4 years ago.
I know all about Karl and Francois and the family history.
John was actually adopted by Helen and Karl. I was trying to find out who John's natural parents were. All we know is that the father was a German Doctor and the mother a French Brazilian nurse. I was hoping to find out the real last name for our children's sake. But this may never come to pass. Thank you for your reply. Marianne Klanfer

I am one of Frank's (Francois) high school friends from Swampscott, mass. I knew the family well, but not Johnny's history. Do you have a current email for Frank? Or perhaps a current home address? Thanks so much.
