What time period are you talking about?? I'm looking for the family of John HARRELL/HORRELL of Charles Co. John served in the Rev. War., and left MD for VA some time around 1790 or thereabouts. He (or his family) eventually ended up in Fauquier Co, VA

Re: HARREL, HARRILL, HARRELL
I, also, would like to know who the father of Housand Harrill was. I do know he was married to Francis Philadelphia Street. Also I know that he came from Virginia to what is now Cleveland County around 1780. Records show that he was a member of Sandy Run Baptist Church in 1780. I live in Cleveland County about five miles from his burial place. If you can help me identify his father, please send me a EMail.

Re: HARREL, HARRILL, HARRELL
Your inquiry is almost ancient and I imagine you already have your answers. However, in case you do not, here is some info for you:
Housand Harrill's ancestors were from the Isle of Guernsey, GB. He came first to Philadelphia, PA, but left because of an outbreak of "black water fever", moving to the area of Suffok, VA, from at least 1779 until 1784.. The 1790 Census shows him in the Morgan District,Rutherford, NC.
Yes, he was married to Frances Philadelphia Street, daughter of Captain William Street and Helen Waddy of Bedford County, VA. I show Housand and Frances (Franky) had twelve children. No television in those days!
Housand died between 1806 when his will was written, and 1809 when his will was probated. I have a copy of his handwritten will and note he consistently spells his family name as 'HARROLD' and signed it likewise.
Housand's father was Gilbert, born about 1714 in VA, son of James, born about 1692. Gilbert died about 1763 in VA.
I hope this helps you out some. It is evident the devout genealogy searcher will also query the name 'HARROLD', as well as the more obvious 'Harrill", Harrell', etc.

Re: HARREL, HARRILL, HARRELL
I am a descendant of Housand Harrill. I noticed that you had a copy of his will. Would it be possible to email a scanned copy of that to me for my records?
I am also having some trouble determining his father. You note that Gilbert was his father. Do you have any idea of location of Gilbert at the time of his birth or marriage?
Someone has traced the family back to Harwells of England. Does that correspond with your Guernsey connection?
Thanks for any information.

David - Sorry to be so tardy in replying. Haven't been checking my gmail often enough, I guess.
If I have Housand's will, and I've forgotten if I do, I will gladly copy it for you.
FYI: Gilbert Harrill, DOB 22 Jan 1711. Northumberland, VA. DOD 1809. Rutherford County, NC.
His father - James Harrel, DOB 3 May 1679. Northumberland, VA. DOD 1762. Prince George, VA.
His father - Gilbert Harrel, DOB 1657. Lancaster, VA. DOD 1703. Northumberland, VA.
His father - Richard Harrold, DOB 1635. England. DOD 1700. Lancaster, VA.
To answer the Guernsey question I will have to open up Housand's file folder.
I have found mucho copying of unsubstantiated facts at ancestry.com. And some misinformation as well. I read a copy of a handout from a Hardin family reunion where it said Lilly Belle Hardin never married. Lilly Belle is my paternal grandmother, was married to Arthur Lawson Harrill, had two sons, Robert Clinton Harrill and Albert Cleveland Harrill. Albert was my father. So if Lilly Belle never married, then I guess I do not exist!
I have quite a bit of info on the Harrill line from Housand down to myself via Housand to Richard Street Harrill to James Alfred Harrill to Thomas Oliver Harrill to Arthur Lawson Harrill to Albert Cleveland Harrill to Me. Also quite a bit on the families of most of the wives, ie; Hardin, Allen, Phillips, Daves, and Dobbins. As well as others.
Rutherford County was originally Old Tryon County. Small, but very busy making babies!
