Looking for Elizabeth (Madison) Kistner who married John Pitzer. She was born in 1740 in Shanendoah Virginia and died in 1825 in Botecourt Co. Her husband John was born 1735 in Lanchaster Pa. and moved to Va. He died in 1824 in Botecourt Co. I don't know if Madison was her middle name or she was married once before. Need help!!! They had a son Carey who married Martha Ann Fury daughter of Robert and Eleanor (Bostick) Fury. Help!!!

Hi Chris,
In searches that I have been performing to find a connection to Rachel Pitzer/John Sigler and Rachel Pitzer/Samuel Irwin (different eras but probably grandmother/granddaughter or great-aunt/great-niece) I have run across numerous sources of which you ask. Some conflict with the info in your search.
I do not know what sources you have used so some of this you may already know; but here it is.
From LDS records [www.familysearch.org] there is a John Pitzer that married an Elizabeth Madison (Kistner) and mentions Botetourt Co. Va. There are 12 children listed (1 twice with same birth year), the youngest of which was Carey A. Pitzer.
Two sources from the WorldConnect Project [worldconnect.rootsweb.com] show an Elizabeth Madison married to John Pitzer, both of which show the same children as LDS. They are {twhiting} and {nelliblu28}. Nelliblu28 shows Elizabeth Madison's parents as f: John Madison and m: CLAIBORNE and also lists Carey A. twice.
Of these 2 sources and 3 Carey A.'s they all show his wife to be Lucinda Goode. Out of curiosity I pulled up Martha Ann Fury and according to a WorldConnect page {jimmyk418} she married George Pitzer. Her f: Robert Fury b: abt 1797 in NC and m: Ellenor Bostick b: 1796 in Monroe Co., VA. They were married 7-19-1847 in Monroe County, WV. I thought WV ceded from VA in 1853 but I may be wrong - or there may be a Monroe Co. in each state.
Additionally I have found through Ancestry World Tree [www.ancestry.com] a Rachel Pitzer (that I believe to be my elder Rachel) married to a John Sigler, but with different siblings which do not include a Carey. Her f: John Pitzer, Sr. and m: Elizabeth (Kistner?). John Sr.s parents, f: Ulrich Pitzer and m: Mary UNKNOWN.
To me it looks like there are definately connections for you within these pages as well as possibly for me but not being sure of the Madison or Kistner surname will make this task very messy. All sources I have mentioned are free with the exception of Ancestry World Tree (some parts are free but I believe the parts that I accessed were only available since I subscribe).
If in your searches you happen to run across a Rachel Pitzer b: 1813 d: 1896 with parents mentioned please let me know.
Somewhere in my basement I have a picture of a Rachel Seigler who I now assume to have been the wife of John Sigler. When I find the picture and have it digitized I will email you a copy if you are interested; just let me know and I will make a note of it.
Good luck,
Rick

Okay but it may be awhile. I used to have the pictures hanging in my old house but have since moved. They are still packed away and I am not sure exactly where they are. Then I will need to get them digitized. But I will send them.
I just received a private email about Pitzers in Botetourt Co. re: a Pitzer estate left to several Siffords. She relayed the Bible transcription mentioning this. If you have any records of Siffords as family or friends I am sure that she would like to know. I have her name and email address but I already filed them.
As I mentioned to her I believe that, at best, your/her Pitzers may be cousins or such to my Pitzers. I have no records of mine in Botetourt Co. Mine were from Loudon County, VA, Allegany County, MD and then onto Licking County, OH.

Botetourt Co., VA - I'm not related to the Pitzers in any way, but my 2nd great grandfather, Jacob Casper Cronise, and his brother, Americus, came down to Botetourt Co. in 1868 and purchased land from Rufus Pitzer, who served as deputy sheriff of the county, qualifying in 1858 under his brother, J.K. Pitzer, sheriff. There were slave cabins on the land, later torn down.Perhaps the Pitzers couldn't afford to keep the land after the Civil War. I have no info on the Pitzer family names other than the ones I mention but I do have some about Wheatland Manor which was once owned by Rufus Pitzer. Just let me know if you would be interested in this bit of history. Pat

Thanks for replying.
None of the names you mention are in my tree at present.
As I mentioned in my original post I believe, at best, Kistner/Pitzer's from Botetourt would be distant cousins of my ancestors (which does not mean I would not want to know about them but I have no direct connection yet).
My main reason for posting to Botetourt was to help others. The John S. Sigler that I believe could be in my line was from Botetourt County and in searches for him I found many people searching for very similar info pertaining to Elizabeth Madison/Elizabeth Kistner?/Elizabeth Kistner who married a Pitzer.
I have not gotten any further back on my Rachel Pitzer, in fact I have had break-throughs in other parts of my family and have been concentrating there.
I do hope that my original post has helped to clear up confusion or, at least, connect a few living people to resolve the confusion of the Madison/Kistner/Pitzer line.
Thanks again for responding,
Rick Marx

Rick,
In my ancestry is a John S Sigler (3rd son of John Sigler and Elizabeth Unk. John was buried at Ellis Chapel, Licking Co, Oh) marrying Rachel Pitzer -married 8/8/1798 by Reverend Shaw. I have no decendants for these lovebirds but I would enjoy a digitized photo that you mentioned as well as any further info.

There is a John Pitzer who married a Charlotte Davidson in Botetourt County, VA on January 15, 1794. I also see a Capt. John Pitzer Jr., and a Capt. Baker Davidson (who I believe is my 4th ggf) mentioned in a history of Covington, VA (under a general heading of "History Of Alleghany County" by Harry A. Walton, Jr.). Does anyone have any information on this Charlotte Davidson or this Baker Davidson?

I addition, a Thomas M. Davidson married a Dolly Ingart on October 18, 1827,and a Thomas Davidson married a Betsy Hagan on May 6, 1830, both in Botetourt. Does anyone have any information on these people?

Thanks,

Bill Davidson

Hi Bill. Your Dolly Davidson rang a bell, as I have one in the family who is the daughter of William and Nancy Evans Engart. From my information (which is sometimes incorrect) Dolly married Thomas Davidson and was a widow by 1845 with three children: Salina, who married Henry C. Hoylman; Tavernon, nothing known about this child; and Rutherford, who married Sarah Frances Melton on 30 Dec 1869 in Kanawha County, W. VA and had at least three children.

Dolly then married Ezekial G. Porter, born Campbell County, parents unknown, and they had two children together: Mary Virginia Porter and William S. Porter. I don't have much information on these children. Ezekiel was first married to Matilda Sizer, daughter of John Sizer of Botetourt County.Ezekiel and Matilda had six children who were brought into the marriage between Ezekiel and Dolly. Ezekiel became a master blacksmith and moved his family to Covington, Alleghany County, VA, where, presumably, they both died before 1880. I do not have death dates. I am directly descended from Ezekiel and Matilda Sizer Porter through their last child together, Sarah S. Porter, who married a cousin, Thomas Jefferson Sizer, Jr.

Hope that helps - if anyone can help fill in the holes, it would be appreciated.

Cheers,
Linda
