Hello!

I am trying to locate information on the former C.S.S. Kentucky, a troop transport being used to transport Confederate POWs (who had surrendered at Shreveport, LA) and which sunk on the Red River near Alexandria, LA in June 1865.

Any information or leads would be greatly appreciated!

Actually, the Kentucky wrecked and burned on Red River just a few miles below Shreveport, and has been located and researched by the US Army Corps of Engineers. I've writrten some articles on it and have some pix I can email you.

I have recently come across some family information indicating a relative possibly being on-board and perishing in this event. It looks like it has been 10 years since the last post to the message board, but I would be interested any information that could be provided. My relative was a member of the 9th regiment of the Missouri Infantry, paroled by the Union Army at Shreveport, LA.
