I wish to obtain a death cert for a death in Brussels in 1884.

The death occured at:
Chaussee de Charleroi, Brussels

I would appreciate any advice on the correct registry to contact, and on ordering procedure, costs etc.

thanks & regards

Gerry

Hello,

Just in case you have not yet found the answer to your question, the district in Brussels (called "commune") covering 95% of the Chaussee de Charleroi is "Saint Gilles". The contact e-mail address for this service is etatcivil.1060@stgilles.irisnet.be
They will probably explain the procedure and cost.

Hello,

This is a little off topic but I wonder if anyone might be able to explain how I would go about finding the location of a burial in Brussels? I have a general idea of times of death (late 1970s to early 1980s) and from looking at Google maps I am almost certain that the location is either Cimetiere de Bruxelles or Cimetiere de Schaerbeek. Any advice out there would be very gratefully received.

Regards,

Neil Bailey

Dear Pascal,

Thank you for your rapid reply! My Great Uncle Frederick SHEARING (b 18 Dec 1910 Bournemouth, UK) lived in Belgium after the end of WW2. He lived with a lady I believe was called Elisabeth PAUWELS (her married name and I am uncertain as to the spelling) in the Schaerbeek area (Avenue Emile Max 130) of Brussels in the late 1970s.

I believed Frederick died in the late 1970s (possibly 1979 however from an e-mail from Schaerbeek Commune he died in 1976 in Gent which does not tally with my memeory but this is a long time ago now so I could be wrong). Elisabeth died in the early 1980s and this is where it all goes cold.

The last time I visited Brussels I was a child but I remember going to the cemerery to visit Frederick's grave with my now deceased Grandparents (my Grandfather was Frederick's brother). From what I remember I am reasonably certain that the place of burial was as I described previously. I am hoping that Elisabeth is buried close to him but as they never married (to my knowledge) and she never divorced her husband (again, to my knowledge) I cannot be certain that this is the case.

I hope that this information is helpful. This may seem sentimental but I would like to perhaps pay my last respects to two kind people I remember well from my childhood.

I hope that you are able to help and I offer you my thanks in advance.

Sincerely,

Neil Bailey

Hi Neil

I am not certain to understand it all .

If Schaerbeek City Hall told you he died in Gent , than he did died there ...they know..why shuld they tell a lie ? That death record is in Gent than ...
What is it you really want ? What death record ?
Even if Frederik died in Gent , it is possible that he was birried in Brussels i don t see where the problem is..;It s common and not unusual

Best regards
Pascal

Dear Pascal,

What I am trying to locate is Frederick's place of burial which is in Brussels. I was hoping that there would be a way of finding his exact location (plot number) so that I might be able to visit his grave. I hope that this makes sense.

Also, if I can find a death record and therefore a place of burial for Elisabeth as well then that would be a bonus.

Is there a particular agency that would deal with the cemeteries in Brussels? Is it the Communes (such as Schaerbeek) or are burials dealt with differently from births, marriages and deaths?

I hope this claifies things.

Sinerely,

Neil

Here s the link to the City Hall of Schaerbeek and cemetery..it s all in english , so it s easy for you to understand...

http://www.schaarbeek.be/site6/plone/demarches-administrativ...

there is now way i can help you to get that death record as it is prohibited by law , only relatives may get it and they must ask it themselves ...sorry for it , i can t change the law.As these records are private and less than a century old ; it s considered as private by law ; yu are the only one able to get it ..It just is so

Best regards
