Hello, I just found my Great Grandfather's German military service record. If anyone could please help me translate it, I would greatly appreciate it. I am particularly interested in the regiments/companies that he served in and his respective service time in each regiment. However, I would love to read the entire record if possible. Thank you in advance.

I don't speak or read German; but I found a place on the internet that might head you in the right direction. pastprologue.wordpress.com/2010/01/20/the-servicerecord/.
I put in as a search "Translating WW1 German Records. I got a lot of responses. I didn't check all of them; but this seems like a good one and has a record they were translating; that looks just like your record. I hope I have helped in some small way.
It seems like you ought to be able to get in touch with Germany and they would have theses records and a translated or translator for you.
In America we have the Veterans association or VA and they are a big help. Germany must have something like it.

Hello, thank you for your response, I will try to get in touch with that person and see if they can assist me in translating the record. I tried getting it translated by the German Archives but unfortunately they don't provide that service. They pointed me in the direction of a professional translator, but unfortunately he wants quite a bit of money for it.
As for the war in which my great grandfather fought in, it was WWI, which was not related to Hitler. Germany was dragged into the war via Austria, because they had an alliance with them. Austria's Archduke Franz Ferdinand was assassinated by Serbian terrorists in Sarejevo, Bosnia. This caused Austria to wage war on Bosnia and Germany was just backing up Austria, their ally. Russia got dragged in because they were allied with Bosnia and France was dragged in because it was allied with Russia and so on and so on. So the combination of one event and a series of treaties and alliances caused the World War. WW1 really doesn't have the same negative stigma as WW2.

I am sorry. I first went and corrected the message. I don't know what I was thinking about. I know I am on the WW1 Board. I got carried away in the moment. It is typical and shows how people relate sometimes.
