You don't say where you are, and it would help to know. Your profile says "Montrose", but not which country that is in.
You can order a copy of Patricia's birth registration to find out more about her and her parents. Her birth is too recent to be available at BDM Online - Historical Records (
https://www.bdmhistoricalrecords.dia.govt.nz/Home/), but the site is still useful to know.
If you have an iGovt registration, you can order a non-historic registration online at
https://www.bdmonline.dia.govt.nz/NonHistoricRecordsIf you don't want to order online, or are dealing with more recent events that aren't on the historical site and don't have an iGovt registration, you can order via ordinary mail - go to Births, Deaths & Marriages (BDM,
http://www.bdm.govt.nz/), click on the link "Family History Records" down the left-hand side, then click on the link "Request death, marriage, civil union, and name change certificates". Scroll down the page to "Post your application form..." and click on the link "Request for a Certificate (BDM 93 D, M, C, or N". Now you're at
http://www.dia.govt.nz/diawebsite.nsf/wpg_URL/Services-Birth... where you can choose the appropriate form, download it, print it, fill it in and send it off with your payment.
If you are a member of the New Zealand Society of Genealogists (NZSG,
http://www.genealogy.org.nz/) enquire at their Certificates Collection before making purchases at BDM. If they're holding what you're looking for, it is much cheaper.
Be sure to get the printout, not the legal certificate, for family history purposes. (I explain why at
http://archiver.rootsweb.ancestry.com/th/read/NEW-ZEALAND/20...)
Under "normal" circumstances, with a birth in the Christchurch area, I'd point you to the parish cards held at Christchurch Library, but it is closed due to the earthquakes. The building itself is okay, but is still in the "red zone" as far as I know, and not open to the public. Keep an eye out in the future for announcements that it is open once again. There's a fabulous wealth of information in those cards.
You may also find PapersPast (
http://paperspast.natlib.govt.nz/), and Archway (
http://archway.archives.govt.nz/), the online index to Archives New Zealand (
http://www.archives.govt.nz/) useful.
Hope this helps. :-)
Kind Regards,
Wendy
