Looking for information on my great grandfather, Frederick Wilhelm Martwick who was born in 1850, either in Germany or Aldenville. He farmed in Aldenville, married Emma Jane Swingle (of S. Canaan Twp) , had 5 children who scattered across the country, and died in 1931 in Northfield, NJ. His parents were Michael Martwick and Hannah Schiller. Tough going in the census, for some reason. Emma Jane left Aldenville around the turn of the century, divorced Martwick and spent the rest of her life in Santa Barbara, CA.

My GGG-Grandfather Charles Stanton married Ruth Smith. After he was killed in a fall at his mill in Wayne County, his son Austin moved to Michigan. Ruth Smith (Stanton) remarried a Jno Shaffer (per the 1891 Stanton History),she died in Michigan and is burried in Barry County with her Son Austin and his wife Armenia Buckingham (both b. in Wayne Co). My question is: Is Jno (John or Johnathan?) from the Wayne Co Shaffers? (A good guess?) If so who knows where he ended up, as he is not burried with Ruth.
Ruth died 21 years after Charles fall in 1848. She had lots of time. I'm also interested in Ruth and her sister Sarah (both married Stantons, and their father Austin Smith.
Thanks, Ron Stanton in Michigan

I have recently found out that My GGGrandmother Sarah House Compton married a Perry Swingle and had several daughters with him. His father was Aaron Swingle a decendant of Hans Ulrich & Mary Swingle. I am interested in finding out what the first name of Sarah's first husband was. She had one son with this Compton, Albert. Albert is my GGrandfather.
If you can supply and information on this I would greatly appreciate it.
Thank you,
Michele Compton Murphy

Hi Janet, I saw your post on a Wayne County listserve from 2007, but when I tried to email you, the email didn't work. I will post my reply here. You were researching the Martwick line, and in particular were looking for where in Germany the family resided. I also noticed that you mentioned that you weren't sure about one Frederick's sisters' names. I am descended from that sister. Her name was Wilhelmina "Minnie" Martwick b. 13 Feb 1853, d. 11 Jul 1942 and she married Moses Winnie. I have what I believe to be her family bible. I was just going through it the other night and there were some notes about where in Germany they resided:

"Augusta Kennedy born near State Plornick (or Plotnick?) and Posen, Germany (Trummel Ort)"

I had always heard Trummel Ort, Germany, but could never find it on a map.

I believe this is in present day Poland, part of the old Prussian empire.

They were all born in Trummel Ort and came over about 1860. Also, Michael's wife's given name was Johanna C. Schellern according to Findagrave.com, though I have seen it as Hannah on the 1870 census. Also, on the 1870 census, they are listed under the surname Matwig. Hope this helps.

Regards,
Michele Romanowski
